  • It is just Steamboat Willie in the pubkic domain now, including Mickey Mouse as a character, although newer Disney interpretstions of the characters (like gloves) are still under protection. And while Disney can use the original Steamboat Willie as a trademark and protect it through a different avenue, as time goes on they'll inevitably lose their grip on the character.

Trademarks don't have an expiration date - they can be used indefinitely, but they have to be actively used, otherwise they lose their protection. But Disney also can't trademark all the iterstions on Mickey, so some of it will inevitably still seep into the public domain.

  • He's not an ex-Apple exec with ex-Apple exec boatloads of money to do it. Or with ex-Apple exec venture capitalist friends to do the money part for him.

It's not about it being easy or hard. It's about having the backing to do it.

  • I've seen a video with some electric mopeds that had very easily removable batteries. Like you just pop it out and exchange it at a gas-station equivalent.

It'd be ideal if we could settle on a few sizes - kind of like how we have AA, AAA, C, D, etc. batteries. One can be for such mopeds, one larger for cars and some smaller ones to fill various otherwise empty spaces in a car.

So if your battery goes bad or just want to change its tech you can do that.

For normal city driving you carge the car at home. If you go on a trip make a few stops for charging. If you're really in a rush, you can always pay a premium for swapping your drained battery for a prefilled one at a gas station equivalent.

To me this seems like the ideal solution for EVs and I wonder what facts make it unrealistic.

  • Psychologist should get publically shamed to hell and back. Even if Poland doesn't have client confidentiality (and that's a big if), she still has basic ethics of her profession to uphold. Hope the courts of Poland throw this one out.

  • There are a lot of considerstions when buying stufff other than price. Some people buy only local and are willing to pay a premium. Others only buy organic. Others boycott Nestle. Others just buy what "feels" right. Some just have money to burn and literally can't be bothered by money.

Sure, having something like that could upset the balance, but not everyone will use it. And even if a lot of people would, you'd still habe to take in things like distance or Costco memberships, etc.

Also forgot to add - imagine a store having two products, one right next to the other. They're exactly the same other than one being store-brand and 50% cheaper than the other. Surely no-one would buy the other one, yet it still sells. You don't need AI to tell you store-brand is the same thing but cheaper.

  • I'm very much drawn to the idea that users individually make the choice, but I don't think openly embracing Threads is a good idea.

I'd much rather prefer a Fediverse without Threads than Threads without a Fediverse.

  • What if the bank decides to keep all $1.000 and loan out $10.000? While money wasn't printed, phantom money was most definitely conjured out of thin air. And with the magic I don't see how a bank couldn't have, say, bought Disney with the phantom dollars
