  • Yes! Particularly if your job is industrial, get a house somewhere else, but not on the city. Try to find a place with good public transport to the city, tho. Cities will be slowly quitting car infrastructure.

  • Here's the sad truth that Wayland haters hate: Wayland is way more performant and streamlined. X11 is an overly patched mess.

Everytime I had to install a distro, EVERYTIME I had to do some textfile hacking to avoid screen tearing with X11. Turns out in Wayland that is a virtually impossible bug.

Forget about making touchscreens work properly in X11, specially with a secondary screen.

I also remember all the weird bugs that appear in X11 when you have 2 screens with different scaling. No issue at all with Wayland.

Pretty basic stuff in any modern setup.

Wayland performs perfectly on platforms like KDE Plasma or Gnome. I miss no feature. It just requires that some propietary apps realise its potential. And that is what is already happening and will happen throughout 2024.

  • It's just qBitTorrent (except I think the Qt dependencies are gone and it's full webUI) + some easy OpenVPN configuration if you are into that.

Why I have it as an add-on? Well, I run HAOS in a Raspberry Pi, very low consumption device, so having qBitTorrent seeding 100% of the time with such low consumption makes me happy as I am making everyone happy too.

  • Samsung could really make some money with an S24 Mini. No competitors, and millions of S10e users wishing for an even smaller phone with updated specs.

But sadly it will not happen.

People say iPhone Mini was a failure... but somehow sold more than many other brands' flagships...

  • I just had a fun idea that might not take too much time to implement and could work on your own computer (not 100%, but probably more privacy friendly than using YouTube directly):

    • have a powerful AI companion API, such as ChatGPT 4. The most up-to-date with the world data the better it would work.
    • write a script that gathers your favourite channels, the last 100 videos you watched, and whatever other useful data you feel could serve as "food"
    • send a prompt to the AI asking for "give me 10 interesting YouTube search queries related to the following channels/themes [...]"
    • use multiple Piped/Invidious server APIs and query these and gather the most common results + the top X results or each query.
    • profit?
  • I don't use Zigbee2MQTT, I just buy appropiate ZHA hardware to keep things simple.

Addons: qBitTorrent, VS Code, File Browser, Advanced Terminal

Integrations: Google Cloud (Text-to-Speech), Haier hOn, Samsung SmartThings, Tuya.

  • You probably already know about him, but Andrew Huberman is doing an amazing job on bringing science back to the people.

Sleep, motivation, exercise, mental health... everything in the context of neuroscience so you start understanding a bit more everything that happens to you. Protocols to follow, fully explained and backed up by scientific papers, all for the sake of your health. Amazing source of information.

  • We all know Florisboard has no autocorrect or word suggestions yet. The whole post is about this exactly.

Why would I want to hide the smart bar if it's actually useful, quick and modern, unline AnySoftKeyboard... which you have a set of options that either bring too little or too much.

No keyboard layout options in Florisboard? In fact, I can do something in Florisboard that I cannot do in AnySoftKeyboard in terms of layouts: I can pick a "spanish layout" for English language. Which is perfect because I hate having to change layouts and relearn key positions, something that AnySoftKeyboard forces you to do.

In terms of features that Florisboard has that AnySoftKeyboard doesn't... how about a modern and useful top bar that does many more things than the static AnySoftKeyboard's? How about left-right movement with spacebar? How about swipe deletion? How about good-looking password manager integration (and not AnySoftKeyboard's aberration)? How about being able to separate layouts and languages? Clipboard support?

Many of the "cool" modular things that AnySoftKeyboard can do are:

    • for niche power users
    • things than can still be included eventually in Florisboard

The difference here is that for AnySoftKeyboard to include anything that Florisboard does right would require much more work, muuuch more work (basically a full rework of the app); whereas for Florisboard integrating a fancy layout would be... a simple, one file PR.

  • Once you use Florisboard you realise that even with all those options in AnySoftKeyboard, you cannot fully setup something as modern, well-functioning and organized as Florisboard.

There is one thing that makes me shut AnySoftKeyboard down everytime I come back and try it, which is that, when you hold down a key to show the alternative options... you have to really put your finger up over the options to select them... but only from the second row up. Makes no sense and no one seems to realise how wrong that is.
