  • I think any lawyer representing a whistleblower should advise them to make a clear, documented, and witnessed statement about having no intention of committing suicide.

  • It's a pretty bad tactic because while it may let you take credit for improving some people's lives, you're also giving tacit permission for those worse off to blame you for it. This only works if the majority of people are better off than they were four years ago and recognize that they are. That's probably not a safe assumption when we've got record inflation and dipped close to, if not into, a recession. Just think of all the mass layoffs you heard about over the past four years.

  • Israel was tightly controlling the amount of calories per capita that entered the strip long before Oct 7 even happened. Their justification was that any excess would provide Palestinians with a stockpile that would make any future sieges less effective. They weren’t even allowed to collect rainwater.

  • This isn’t a new program, it’s an extension of a program signed into law by GWB. Go ahead and tell me all about how the republicans are obstructing it though. While you’re at it, go look up who’s responsible for making it impossible to discharge student loan debt through bankruptcy.

  • In fairness I may be mistaken. It seems ISPs were extended common carrier protections in relation to hosting Usenet and email and I conflated that with the protocols themselves. Either way it was a long time ago and I doubt they’d extend those protections to generic web platforms these days, but I’d sure like someone to set a precedent for it.

  • I don’t think comparing a federated message board to smuggling drugs is as fair a comparison as say email or Usenet, also federated services which have both been granted common carrier in the past, but go off I guess.

  • Legally I think they’d probably be exempted from liability as a common carrier, similar to how your email server isn’t going to get sued if you mail someone a link to piracy. I doubt they’re interested in testing that theory though.

  • I wish I got this much credit for half assedly fixing problems I helped create.

  • What do you consider difficult to do with CSS that wouldn’t also be difficult without it?

  • Not sure about your particular situation but there’s also the possibility that the bad CSS was good CSS when it was written and over time that got superseded by advancements in both technology and practice.

  • UV tattoo ink is one of the only inks that have been approved by the FDA (for animal use). They've been used for a long time in livestock. Not that that should make you comfortable with sticking it into your skin or anything, but it's probably not quite the same as powdering your face with radium.

While we're on the subject of historically misguided applications of radioactive materials: ever heard of uranium glass? People get real weird around spicy rocks.

  • they probably got a lot of people to buy the first couple battlepasses. a success for that quarter, maybe, but probably not the long tail they were hoping to get from transforming it into the GaaS model. they probably made more money from OW1 lootboxes, overall

  • There are UV reactive tattoo inks. Not exactly the same but pretty close, and probably safer than trying to manipulate your genes.

  • just having a couple brands and models to look into is pretty helpful. I know i'm sick to death of massive screens with touchscreen buttons for everything. i drive my step mother's recent model BMW sometimes and trying to just change the radio station is a chore that involves clicking accept on a screen with a huge disclaimer warning you not to get distracted by the touchscreen while driving before you can even operate it.

  • Plenty of new cars don’t have an obnoxious infotainment screen as well.

maybe list them for OP instead of hinting at their existence.

  • And their families, don’t forget that!

  • wouldnt it make more sense to do a trial that tests their supposed advantages over purpose built robots rather than one which decidedly does not
