  • What I didn’t like about Tidal was their weird format being advertised as lossless when it wasn’t. It didn’t really sound all that great.

There was an application called requiem (if I remember correctly) that could rip music from older Windows XP versions of iTunes; it was only available over Tor quite some time ago. I’m not sure what people would use these days (maybe just a [modified] DAC?).

  • This is why I fucking hate paying federal taxes in California. They want to tax me 34% so they can kidnap people, start wars, etc.

  • This result has my stomach turning. What disgusting, abhorrent people stand for this?

  • I’m so pissed I’ll probably not vote next time!! 🥴

  • I very much agree but can I just say any time they do a symbolic gesture 90% of Lemmy loses their shit too?

  • Maybe three days? I can’t stand not showering.

  • This gives me Arizona flashbacks

  • I haven’t written many utility scripts/programs in a while but my apartment is fully automated with temperature, humidity, light, presence and door sensors.

We like to keep our screen doors open when the weather is nice so I have things like fans, heating, air conditioning automated but set to turn off when a door(s) is open.

The outdoor lights are also automated but I have them turn green/blue when it’s foggy or rainy and they turn red when there is aircraft above.

Before smartphones started using random MAC addresses on WiFi I also automated some things depending which guests we had over, but I haven’t done that in a long time.

  • I think it’s a pipe dream but I would absolutely love it if we (in California) left the US. I’m tired of paying insanely high federal taxes so loser states like Louisiana can take it all and not govern. Fuck that.

  • Almost got me, I didn’t realize which community this is. Was about say “just drink it from the bottle/can?”

  • Not sure what you’re alluding to. I’ve been paying attention for the last 30 (how long I’ve been using computers). During my childhood I used Windows at home and macOS at school; eventually I moved on to Linux at home then a mix of Linux and macOS at home.

I haven’t used Windows since Windows XP so it’s really just a guess what you might be getting at. Am I to assume that OS vendors making poor suggestions in their UIs is normal?

  • I’ve heard a theory that when new presidents come into office they usually aren’t interested in being involved in conflicts. What happens is that something will happen in the world and the newly elected president will have an enormous amount of power at his disposal. Wanting to do good in the world the president will typically go for it.

I wish I could recall the name of the theory or provide references; maybe someone else can chime in.

  • College students with sports cars: I assume they’ll be in debt forever.

  • Some crack den in Coalinga, CA when a friend and I were trying to meet halfway between Sacramento and Los Angeles on the 5 Fwy. His car had broken down so we were forced to stay there one night; it happened to be Halloween so the town was a little wild but our hotel was full of bugs, drugs and other fun surprises.

  • I don’t know what fucking idiot they think is going to say to themselves “well fuck if Microsoft recommends it that’s the way we go!”

  • I think it depends. I’ve noticed in newer developments that yes, they’ll only deliver to names of known recipients.

But I’ve also lived in old-ass places most of my life and I can’t get them to stop delivering mail for someone who hasn’t lived here in 5+ years.

  • Been to Mexico lately? BDS and other Chinese manufacturers are killing it, they make Teslas look like a Model T.
