  • /serious Well, yes, most APIs are meant for system-to-system interaction, that's kind of a given. But since this particular API is clearly meant for human-to-system interaction, returning a human-readable response is adequate. Yes, a better design would probably allow the client to specify additional parameters about the desired response.

/back-to-jokes Yeah, well this kind of sums up most of my job applications. I send an application and the recruiting people are all like "OK".

  • Elon: "I'm going to delete this thing."

Everyone else: "NO! Why would you do that kind of thing?"

Elon: "O-o-okay! B-b-but I'm going to delete something today! That other thing, then!"

(Elon continues to read the hypothetical The Best Of Dilbert's Pointy-Haired Boss book and gets so many ideas, folks)

  • Elon: "That's not fair! There's no gambling or porn on X!"

Indonesia: "But there will be, right? X is supposed to be an app for everything, is it not?"

    Elon: 😯 "But... But..." 😡

  • Unsaid part of that adage was "...in the public".

People forget about nefarious corporations keeping privately shared stuff indefinitely even if you explicitly tell them not to. Or if they swear it's getting deleted.

Also, another part of the adage that is incorrect is a corollary to Murphy's Law. "If you put something online publicly and you expect it to stay online forever, it's not going to, usually due to corporate bullshit."

    Haist' ny', Spez.

  • It's been [UMPTEEN YEARS] since I registered a Steam account, and when I registered my CD key for original Half-Life, I got the Blue Shift and Opposing Force for free. (As is the case with of most Steam library items, I've yet to complete them!) Now. Please let me transfer my shit from Battlenet to Steam. I can't wait to get my Starcraft installed! I could finally be a proper PC gamer! /very mild sarcasm

  • I have a Zyxel NAS server that just offers a SMB share. I'm just dumping my photos there under YYYY/MM/DD scheme, and converting all of my Nikon NEF files to DNG. (For importing photos to the NAS and generating backups, I have a PowerShell script and a PowerAutomate action. Also mild usage of Dropbox to transfer files from my cellphone.)

For actual management of photos, I use ACDSee Photo Studio Professional, and it just writes all tag information to the files themselves, so I can basically use any other software for photo management. For actual photo editing, I use DXO PhotoLab and Affinity Photo most of the time.

Enklanti on iisiä.

Edit: Ainiijoo! Ruosteessa on sekin kielitaito.

  • Funny thing is that I'm not sure if governments should run official Mastodon servers where all political parties blend into one. I'm from Finland, and we currently have a mild problem called "dipshit party having actual political reach". Including several members of parliament who have tweeted Not So Savoury Things which would be a banworthy offence in pre-Musk Twitter (if anyone at the staff comprehended Finnish language, that is). So maybe the task of running Mastodon servers for candidates and actual serving members of political machinery should fall to the political parties. If an entite dipshit party gets defederated, maybe that's a signal they should consider.

  • This is actually a good question if I'm answering it entirely based on feels, not actual data.

Biggest game overall, single player plus multiplayer? Halo series. Maybe Destiny 1&2 too.
Biggest PC game? Probably Neverwinter Nights (2002). (This predated Steam, so fuck the statistics anyway.)
Biggest game I'm spending shitloads of time right now? TRAIN SIM WORLD 3.

  • My first Reddit client was Baconreader. I can't remember why I stopped using it, probably because it had some limitations or other. I used RIF for a while, because they were going ad-free for Reddit Gold users. Didn't renew my Reddit Gold one day. Luckily there was a lot of hype going on around this newcomer called Sync, so I got it Sync Pro and was happy ever since. ...Until this day I guess, but that's not Sync's fault.
