  • If there is an iPhone 16 that can operate in Indonesia, that means that I can say, the device is illegal. Do report it to us.

From the article, it isn't just banning the sale of iPhone 16, but also make iPhone sold to customer non operational. I don't know how they manage to do it, but that is ridiculous. Customer shouldn't be punished because Apple didn't fulfill it's commitment.

  • It is not always I want to write this long to explain what in my thoughts. The conclusion remains the same as my first comment.

I always maintain a healthy dose of skepticism on anything. Not that they would do it again and it is highly probable that's only a mistake but no one can tell except Bitwarden themselves. However, all the outsiders like us can only take their statement at face value and some skepticism will keeps eyes sharp.

  • I wish it's just pananoia though I think that statement only in the skeptical realm, and I wish nothing substantial changed. I'm hosting vaultwarden currently for my family. To them the app on their phone is paramount. However, it is proven some will go that route, like Android. After all, a for -profit company goal is to make money.

There is a risk and a probability one need to evaluate. Nothing wrong to plan for an exit, but abandoning the software right now is simply overreaction.

As long as I can use it with a self-hosted server with features they expect, I'm don't think I will move away from it.

  • I don't understand the hostility of other comments. I had a quick look on the code and it is essentially IRC+Kiwi but in Rust, or a Matrix public chat room without signups. All chats are in memory and not saved to disk or DB. There is username but you can claim who you wants to be. The dependencies looks sane and reputable. I do saw there is a WebSocket lib being used but not found in code. However I don't code in Rust nor I understand WS well so take a grain of salt here.

It does provide anonymity, but not privacy or confidentiality. It does what it claims.

  • I only know you can use it via Matix with a bridge, but the setup is quite involved, not just an App on your phone. Plus the metadata is still shared with Meta, like who you talked to and when, which they can build a profile and a social graph.

  • Platforms hosting adult content or gratuitous violence must implement appropriate age verification systems. While the Code doesn't specify particular technologies, the regulator will assess the appropriateness of age assurance measures on a case-by-case basis.

Dangerous. It is up to them to define what's appropriate.

  • If you can sign up on website, you cancel on website. If you sign up in person, you cancel in person. At least I believes the new rule is like this. It will be very weird for FTC only make this applicable to certain subscriptions, not universally applied.

  • It is appling the the same standard

    • Russia -> FSB -> operated by Russian -> contributing to Linux -> Bad
    • USA -> NSA -> operated by Americans -> authored SELinux -> Bad

Should this logic work? Hell no. It's simply prejudice that against any nationals that they have ill intent of doing something because their country do something bad. Just like a child can't choose their parents, a citizen can't choose their nation at born.

The wrench attack argument can be applied to any nationals too, by anyone.
