  • That's if you use opensource drivers, good for AMD but not so much for NVIDIA.

  • My cat does the same to me lol, every day, should I get her a dog?

  • I'm a fringe case then lol, I keep them until they actually break, they do last 4-5 years for me, sometimes more, I don't make intense use of my phone, I much prefer using my PC for basically everything.

  • Thank you for reacting so quickly!

  • There's not a "best" distro for gaming, it very much depends on what games you play.

If you want to play latest releases, a rolling release is most probably the best option for you, I hear Suse Tumbleweed is very good if you don't like Arch.

If you want less "aggressive" updates but not exactly a stable, you can try Solus, it's a sort of middle-ground between the 2.

If your games are not the latest ones, a Debian-based distro is a very good option, rock-solid, updated enough and without any "extra fluff".

I personally use Linux MX XFCE and I'm very happy about it.

  • True, I bought an ipad more than 7 years ago to read because e-readers are too small for my liking.

I don't use it much anymore since I have an e-writer now, but it still receives updates regularly, whatever comes to my phone comes to it as well, it's impressive.

  • Happy to hear companies are finally getting it.

  • Well, Google isn't famous for being reliable in the long run with their services, Apple is proven at this point, tho who knows, I'll wait a few years and see if Google is still at it with their Pixels.

  • Slackware was my second, version 3 or 4 was the first I used, I don't remember what year it was, but I've learned so much from it.

  • That's the reason why I switched to iPhone after many years of Android, security updates are vital nowadays with all the sensitive data and apps we use on our phones, Apple is the only one that guarantees al least 5 years, iPhones are not too expensive if you don't buy the latest models and I'd rather avoid supporting companies that don't understand the importance of security.

  • I agree, if it wasn't Musk there wouldn't be so much hate most probably, starlink is objectively good for all the people living in rural zones (in some cases just outside of big cities) where internet doesn't arrive because other companies don't want to spend the money for it.

  • It did indeed, I knew nothing about the fediverse before the reddit protest began, didn't even know lemmy existed, now I happily migrated here, like me many other people.

  • I fully agree with you, karma "whoring" is a serious problem on reddit, awards could lead to the same behavior here if implemented.

Donations are the best way to support the platform, if you want to be "visible" as donator, opencollective allows you to post a message about it, there's also a sort of top donators page, that's more than enough in my opinion.

  • They're not telling (rightfully so) and hopefully won't until all instances are fixed.

  • Amazing how you quickly reacted to this!! Bravo!!

TIP: if you can't login after what happened, clear out your browser cache including ALL cookies, that fixes it (it did for me at least). I believe it's also advisable to change lemmy password.

  • Oh no :( I missed that, did they say why?

  • Reusing the content you scraped, if copyright protected, is not.

Edit: unless you get the authorization of the original authors but OpenAI didn't even asked, that's why it's a crime.

  • Copyright, this is not the first time they're sued for it apparently (violating copyright is a crime).
