  • Yeah my data is definitely an oversimplification. Raw bitrate doesn’t mean the same between them because they compress differently. I tried to control for that as best I could so it wasn’t the bitrate that was saving file size but the efficiency of the codec.

    It’s like a fuzzy start line 🤷‍♂️

  • Same movie. 1080p. 2h. 6000 Bitrate. AAC 5.1 audio.

    • H264: 8 GB
    • H265: 5 GB
    • AV1: 3 GB
  • At this point people should be posting things that HAVENT seen a price hike. Because if there are companies out there not jacking up their rates, they deserve a standing O.

  • The instance I joined didn’t even require an email at the time. They have a long way to go if they want to be the next Facebook lol

  • “Phone company, internet”

Lol, there you go. Your ISP and wireless carrier are THE worst. They also have a lot of your financial info that they sell off. Tracking too. Your carrier routinely pings your phone for get location and records the calls, where you were at the time, how long etc. Unless it’s encrypted, they see and harvest it all.

ISPs don’t have as much liberty but they too track and sell off a fair bit of your life. They also have your financial info as most almost run a background check these days.

  • Oh there’s plenty of proof. But it’s all “inconclusive” and “needs further study”. Worse yet, everything is assumed healthy or good so the burden is always on you. Lead. Asbestos. Cigarettes. Carbon from cars. Thalidomide. Microplastics. Which is on a greater scale than anything we’ve ever seen. So clearly the problem is fixing itself 🙃

Because money now. I said money now! You give money now!

  • Why? Policies and laws are all part of the free market. And if you don’t like it, you’re free to find another market.

  • Welcome to capitalism. You new?

  • They used social media to destroy social media

  • They are a search proxy, sending your query to Google, Microsoft, Yahoo and whomever else they partner with at the time. They don't anonymize them either, which is how DDG works.

They plant trees. That was their thing. For the environment. I don't know how they magically get lumped into privacy discussions. They don't care about privacy at all.

  • Can you post a screenshot? iOS version?

  • Why do people list Ecosia when they talk about privacy????

  • Knowing iOS lumps web apps into a global safari cache is helpful. That means we can’t get a very accurate measure on iOS unfortunately. I can file a PR with Apple but that’s just never going to get made.

Still, I cleared out 600MB in just a few days. It all seems very suss based on my usage patterns.

  • The lowest I’ve seen it in iOS is 350MB. Which still seems insanely large for an app that’s about 30MB. Yes it’s gotta cache things but what community is posting 100MB gifs 12 times a day??

Edit: Turns out it’s that high because iOS lumps web apps in with Safari wen cache (apparently).

  • This no fine uh. No fine.

  • I know how cache works and that’s not it. But thanks.

  • SL was a god tier move. A shame Cook doesn’t see the value in slowing down and polish. I heard rumour Apple may pull another SL then the very next day they talk about iOS 18/macOS 15 being the biggest and boldest update ever so idek.

  • For now a workaround is to offload the app and reinstall it. Just grating I need to do that every few days. I think Apollo had the same problem.

Which could be solved by just setting a limiter and clear cache button in settings.
