  • Are you sure it wasn't set in Scotland? Charlie Stross wrote a novel a bit like you describe, its in the second person, which is very unusual and definitely rubs some people the wrong way. I think it was Halting State.

  • The search results are inconsistent and they started including advertising on the map but I haven't noticed a decline in route finding. Perhaps there were accidents or traffic jams being routed around?

  • Read the JD Vance Dossier

  • Calling the Steele dossier "fraudulent and discredited" is not really accurate. It never purported to be anything beyond mostly unverified oppo research, and I don't think it was ever actually completed before it got leaked. It also did in fact contain things that turned out to be correct or largely correct, although obviously the most famous alleged event was never proven, and it also contained things that turned out to not be correct. Being a compilation of mostly unverified oppo research when it was leaked it obviously was going to contain both true and untrue claims, that it did does not discredit it or mean it was fraudulent.

  • I'm surprised to see this getting down voted. The Trump cultists are a powder keg, I wouldn't feel safe in any building associated with Democrats or the Harris campaign personally. It's not really a surprise they are shooting out windows, these are pissed off people with guns who believe a bunch of crazy shit. If you're working in a building like this and you didn't consider this possibility then you are naive to the reality of what you're up against.

  • What are the odds of two billionaires sharing a jail cell? Has it ever happened before? Or I guess SBF is a former billionaire on paper so maybe he doesn't count. Either way, its nice to see the legal system locking up monsters.

  • Poirot. It's charming, full of mostly subtle humor, and generally just well written, acted, and produced. I appreciate that it has a deeply humane perspective where justice matters, and that effort has been put into historical accuracy. It's also sufficiently detached from contemporary reality that its not a downer to watch even though it still has a very honest view of human nature.

  • I think part of the problem, at least for me, is the horrible color temp most headlights use now. They are like 6500k hard white light instead of something less harsh like around 3500k that is much easier on the eyes. I think the only criteria they care about when selecting LEDs is maximum brightness so this is what we get.

  • No? Growing up around conservatives I remember them talking a whole lot of shit. If they thought you were a liberal that shit would get directed at you. Things weren't quite as bad back then compared to now, but they were still whiny hateful assholes.
