instead of just using a proper IDE with go-to-definition
I have seen people use an IDE that has the functionality, but searching it instead.
And then not finding it because it is in an out of project header, even though the IDE provides an F1 help (documentation) for that symbol.
Never have I had to implement any kind of ridiculous algorithm to pass tests with huge amounts of data in the least amount of memory, as the competitive websites show.
It has been mostly about:
Finding the correct library for a job and understanding it well, to prevent footguns and blocking future features
Design patterns for better build times
Making sane UI options and deciding resource alloc/dealloc points that would match user interaction expectations
cmake
But then again, I haven't worked in FinTech or Big Data companies, neither have I made an SQL server.
It is very much a reality. One that tech companies have put hard work into creating, with vertical integration and contractual locking down of spare parts, which could otherwise have been components for anyone's DIY project.
My current phone cost < $200 and I always tend to buy lower cost phones.
Now, if I were to buy something like a Fairphone, I would be looking into getting something shipped here, which would incur additional fuel costs and on top of that, taxes. And then add to that, that all future spare parts will require a similar effort, it becomes unfeasible to me real fast.
The only way it makes sense, is if someone in my country starts considering doing the same thing, which requires a great change in a lot of people's mindset.
And that is why "European countries are changing", slowly. It will take more than a little while and so will all other countries.
It will require people to have enough time and aptitude to start realising what kind of a society is actually worth working towards and much more to have enough people act on it.

It is *normal*, same as it was *normal* for most people to die after being treated by a *doctor* in the pre-modern-medicine period.
Same as it is *normal* for people to start needing eye correcting glasses around 25y (quote from a qualified professional doctor).
Same as it is *normal* to be absolutely drained after just 8 hours of working on a desk, because it is also *normal* to have a closed-loop AC system with the only opening in the room (the main door) having people smoking tobacco on the other side.

I opened the Google News widget on my Android phone, saw a Sponsored link, and found it interesting
Clicked on it, the link opened in Chrome, opening the googleadservices redirection thingummy
Took over 5 seconds to process the redirect
I exited the browser
Guess who missed ad money?
But of course, maybe they got the ad money and the only losers were:
me, who didn't get to see the website that might actually have had something I wanted
the website owner, who not only didn't get my business but also had to pay Google, because Google most probably processed the ad first and didn't care to process the redirect
I feel like I understand why they removed the "Do no evil" sign. Because now, they are messing with both, the product and the customers, only providing as much as is required to take their money, instead of the full, advertised service.
Yeah, that was the first thing I found out, looking at the picture.
One would have to tilt the holder backward to take out the knife and then make a very unnatural feeling motion to get it towards themselves.
Even worse if there is no space behind the rack (there is a window in the picture that will enable that if opened)
Sell your wardrobe fridge and replace it with a small one.
If the stuff does not fit in your fridge, don't buy it.
And what @technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com said. Over here, milk comes in 1L packets with a 2 day expiry. I only buy for 2-3 days at a time and every time I go out to buy milk, I also refill groceries.
Stuff over here is not more than 10km away, so I can use a bicycle.
To put better comical effect to that line, you can add a separate hyperlink to each word of the sentence, each leading to a separate article of one of the projectsabandonedbyGoogle.
Even better if all of them were widely used ones, affirming your point.
