It really isn't toxic. It's reality. And there is zero evidence of any diagnosed condition from the OP, just the usual Internet conjecture which is what makes a site like Reddit a cesspool. I'd much rather not see that happen in the Lemmy ecosystem, but sadly it seems like it is. OP asked for advice on what to do, and instead people medically diagnose them. That, to me, given that it's very unlikely anyone here is a licensed medical professional, seems much more harmful than simply telling someone it's time to grow up.
Good luck, @Subject6051@lemmy.ml . I wish you success in your endeavors. It might be a good idea to ignore the Internet when it comes to your well-being.
I think this is great and anything I can see Patrick Stewart in, I will. I don’t share the opinion that Picard series was bad. I don’t see Picard as a one-dimensional must always be the same character. People change over time. And Picard has also changed. Like it or not.
Exactly. The Constitution is the highest law in this country. He broke the law — plain and simple. And what’s more, the Constitution doesn’t require conviction by a jury of his peers for his ineligibility from holding office. It just is.
It’s no surprise, though, that the die-hard constitutionalists, just like religionists with their bible, will cherry-pick and tailor the words of the Constitution to suit their agenda. And also no surprise that that Venn diagram overlaps almost completely.
The moron should be barred from every ballot. It makes no difference what continued web of lies he spins — he’ll be dead soon, and the last thing this country needs is the precedent set that the President is above all law.
Garbage article from a garbage outlet. Firefox is doing just fine for anyone who is using it. It’s not going anywhere anytime soon and these articles are written just to get a rise out of people.
Mozilla isn’t perfect, and has loads of room for improvement, but at least they’re trying to provide alternatives to the nonsense of MS and Google. I’d love a new browser that disrupts the stagnation we have these days, but if they’re only going to be built on top of existing things like Chromium, with its bullshit Manifest v3, then no thanks, I’ll stick with Firefox.
Currently Java 11 + Spring Boot + Hibernate/JPA. The hope is to get rid of the legacy Play Framework crap so we can move to the latest Java LTS and get fully up to date with Spring Boot.
Edit> Nevermind, the title here didn’t properly reflect the title of the article. Kotlin is very valid as part of the stack of development in Java. My apologies for my pedantry :)
As long as it’s treated like a media key and not an intrusion of the standard, then I couldn’t care less. It’s a stupid idea, but Microsoft is so often full of those.
Edit> And after reading the article…of course MS is intruding on the standard just like they did with the windows key, but at least that one was turned into “meta” or “super”. I guess this will guarantee I won’t buy another MS keyboard.
Ah you’re saying people don’t necessarily believe in fascism, but are willing to use it to their advantage. Got it.
I suppose that’s true of most things. In short, evil people are evil. I’m just tired of half (or more) of the country being so deluded by this bullshit. I mean they really are that stupid. And it’s pretty sad, and shitty for the next generations.
As George Carlin once said, “Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”
No offense taken! I completely agree the US is screwed. I wouldn’t trade having my child for anything, but there are times I feel sad at how the country will be when my child is older.
Best not to lump us all in the same boat. I, an American, saw this fascist bullshit from the beginning and have voted accordingly against. But the stacked courts and the lack of judges and justices growing a backbone, and doing what is objectively right, will be our downfall.
In time, the US will have a second civil war because of this. I just hope I’m long gone by then.
I hope “non-believers” doesn’t mean religious non-believers because fascism and authoritarianism has historically gone hand in hand with religion and religious dogma.
But I suspect I’m misunderstanding the context here. At least I hope I am.
After all, here we are, possibly spending time online arguing with strangers instead of engaging in more productive activities.
This feels like a false equivalency. Just because I decided to engage in this post has no bearing on any addiction patterns of mine or the validity of such an activity.
but these devices should come with certain restrictions. For instance, limiting the ability of children to install any app they want or restricting excessive screen time could be effective measures. By implementing these controlled measures, we can provide the necessary safety net while also safeguarding the mental and emotional well-being of younger users.
They do. I used exactly those features on my child’s. If parents choose not to employ them and become educated on the capabilities of the devices, not much else can be done. But this is a broad issue that extends well beyond smartphones.
However, real-world actions should be informed by scientific evidence. Any approach we adopt needs to be backed by data (and not opinions) proving its effectiveness in achieving the desired outcomes.
I agree completely. But ultimately the parents have to know what they are doing and how their knowledge and actions will affect their children. It seems just as disingenuous to blanket smartphones as the problem when it really boils down to parents, education, and understanding the maturity level of their own child.
Point taken. I agree that specific product would solve the safety feature aspect while avoiding the addiction possibility. I suppose it then comes down to when a parent feels their child is ready and cognizant of the dangers of addiction.
You’re clearly on some crusade and don’t understand simple reason. I have no interest in debate. I replied to OP’s question, not to you. Good bye.
