(To preface, when I say "Linux", I'm referring to the effectively established colloquialism that "Linux" means kernel + utilities + distribution = operating system)
Right. In fact, at home, I run all three operating systems. To me, it's using the right tool for the job. Windows is a great OS for gaming (though Valve is working to make it as viable on Linux, it's still not...quite...there, but close). Mac is great for UX, media work, and as a work PC (software development or otherwise). Linux is great for tinkering, software development, and running services.
The "issues" that the OP even refers to are usually not so much real issues, but rather a person simply trying to learn. And that's what is great about Linux for someone who doesn't yet know it -- there's a LOT to learn. I've been using Linux since 1999 (big box Redhat 5.1!) and I still often learn something new about it.
Yes, 16.04 LTS. And they updated as I helped them update, but never went beyond some patch level of 16.04. The point here is that they ran for many years with complete stability, no viruses or malware, and preferred it.
Until one of the RAM sticks went bad, my parents, who are in their 60s ran Ubuntu Linux for years without an issue. I set it up in 2016, as a dual boot with Windows. They almost never booted into Windows, and told me they preferred Linux.
Seriously though, MySQL is garbage and its replication is even worse. It is by design that you’re not supposed to rely on it. It’s apparently a feature that the replication gets out of sync. Why have it then?
I can’t wait until I no longer have to deal with databases. The time is coming!
Of course any article can be biased, but this one has cited sources, at least. It would take further digging to determine if those sources are credible.
In my opinion and based on my past reading on the subject, the simple fact that it’s a religious organization is enough to dissuade me from giving them anything. It is no small statistic that religious organizations are corrupt, hypocritical, expect obedience over tolerance, anti-union, anti-LGBTQ, ultra-conservative, and generally support the notion that people must be submissive to their authority.
I’ll continue to donate to secular organizations that do genuine good.
We tried RainX and it didn’t do anything to help. I suspect either we didn’t apply enough of it, or our glass has something on it that prevents RainX from working.
Trump always uses other people’s money for his own gain. He will suffer nothing, not until his ass is behind bars and hopefully becomes someone’s bitch.
Yeah I got disappointed in Obama when the Snowden revelations came out and it was shown that Obama didn’t put a stop to what the NSA and other orgs were doing. But the alternatives at the time (in 2008 and 2012) didn’t sit right with me.
I also wish we had seen a Bernie presidency in 2017.
I miss how I felt pre-first term Obama. I voted FOR him that year. Sad that the cycle continues and we’re now back to sighing loudly and voting against the worst candidate.
And there’s nothing in the Constitution that requires a trial or conviction either. And in fact Luttig and other scholars have said exactly that as well.
First, I'm not dying on any hill. Second, I'm less liberal than you might imagine. Third, I'm pointing out exactly what literal Constitutional scholars have pointed out. So, instead of personal attacks, perhaps you should sit down, because yes, the 14th Amendment does apply and has been shown that numerous times across numerous jurisdictions, and by much more educated minds than us idiots on Lemmy.
The Supreme Court doesn't always get it right. And they didn't, yet again. And, yet again, we the people will have to clean up the mess which could, and likely will, take decades.
And lastly, BLM protestors did not try to subvert an election and incite a literal insurrection on the Capitol, so enough with the logical fallacies, please. If you want to spout off that nonsense, take it to Reddit where it belongs.
The Constitution lays out 3 main disqualifying provisions from holding the office of the Presidency: Must be 35 years old, Must be a natural-born citizen, and as the 14th amendment section 3 states, "No person shall...hold any office...under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath...as an officer of the United States...to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof." (Removal of the bits that don't pertain specific to what is clearly the OFFICE of the Presidency)
Multiple Constitutional scholars have said it is self-executing. Therefore, the States should not have been allowed to even put Trump on any ballots based on the above.
I guess the country is still in danger. We'll have to see if half of the voting populace would rather have a 91-count-indicted probable-convicted felon as President who has literally called for authoritarianism, instead of the old and senile one. I fully expect Trump to win again because nearly half of the voters are fucking stupid, and the archaic electoral college will give it to him again.
I sure hope not. I cannot wait for the day Reddit is crumbling in its own ashes with piece-of-shit Huffman burning in the center.
