  • Who is going to hold them accountable? The US political system has proven time and time again that it is completely devoid of checks and balances, since they were implemented purely with "good faith" as the regulatory principle.

  • Men in general aren't either. It's just incels. Whenever the talk comes around to them there will always be the inevitable "but let's try to understand their motives". It is an ideology of sociopathy and they chose to to adhere to it, not because they are lonely but because they are awful persons.

  • Your standards for MAGA cultists is way too high. They won't ever know the difference between fact and lie, and they won't care if they eventually learnt about it. Words and facts means nothing to them, it is all about "winning".

  • It is different, because never in human history has it been easier to influence people. We are literally addicted, as in the brain is literally addicted, to our little disinformation device, the output of which is largely controlled by malicious powerful entities. Now add impressionable young brains to the mix.

It is a pretty terrible scenario with no obvious solution.

  • The claw clutching a pearl is just one variant of countless others. We have furniture from ancient Egypt and Rome which has legs carved as animal feet, so it is not a tradition that stems from the British via China.

  • Not going to happen. Europe is barely holding together as it is, and Russia/China are using just as much energy and resources in undermining it as they do in the US.

At best Europe can stick somewhat together enough to form a working defence and foreign policy for its own territory and near neighbours, but it is never going to be a global force.

  • It should be mentioned that Americans and Europeans seldom talk about the exact same thing when talking about cucumbers. The most common cucumber type in the US is a spiky bitter thing with a thick rind, while the most common in Europe is softer with a smooth rind, more watery and often much sweeter in taste (the type which Americans for some reason call the English cucumber).

  • Trump received 49.8% of the vote.

Even that is misleading, since this is just the percentage of the people who actually voted. More people didn't vote at all than voted for him.
