More accurately, this is french secularism, not a ban on religions, just good old state/church separation applied to public institutions where religious symbols are not welcome.

I've found it best explained in some stackoverflow answer mentioning the pet vs cattle analogy. In short, if you know how many servers you have from the tip of your tongue, and what they do more or less, then they are akin to pets: you treat them well and keep an eye on each of them.
Kubernetes is meant for when you have so many of them, that come and go without you even noticing or caring, bearing a number for the sake of production/cost control, this is cattle. Needless to say that this is not your typical app/company running at such a scale, and that there is a 24/7 team of "ranchers" keeping an eye on the herd.

Rule of thumb for kubernetes, if you are learning it "for fun" or on your own, you are not gonna need it :)

If you target the same hardware in the end, why wouldn't it be possible to have another language implement the same arithmetics with the same performance? I'm sure modern languages' metaprogramming could enable that with a syntax that even sucks less..

It's a more than fine functional programming language if you ask me. Was that the functional aspect that you disliked? Or the syntax? Because in one case like the other I've got some bad news for you about what's to come in the programming languages landscape :)

I am unfortunate in that I am the owner of a pixel by choice, and given an iPhone by my employer. I hate Apple's "exceptionalism" and inconsistencies, that they kept the lighting connector alive for so long, that they removed the audio jack even though I have good BY headphones, their constant bait for their ecosystem/cloud storage and whatnot, now this arbitrary cap on USB capabilities (the list is seemingly endless). iOS is also such a frustrating user experience. The perspective of typing long form on an iPhone is off-putting enough to often compel me to pick up the laptop or the pixel given how stupid the keyboard completion and text entry UX are. Don't get me wrong, I also think Android is a terrible OS, but at least it's not forcing its shortcomings down our throats. For instance, I use nova launcher and sesame shortcuts, so that I just type what I want (contacts, common actions, app-specific shortcuts, settings, directions, ...) and barely do any menu/app navigation at all. And that's what I want: to order my phone about my immediate needs and get immediate feedback/answers. Apple UX is about prettifying a workflow which I don't want in the first place, stripping out elements of UX which I might need, and leveraging a hard to reach zoo of applications which never interact/complement each other. They really managed to turn an incredibly powerful device into a dumb phone. Did I mention already how frustrating the user experience is?

Why keep giving cloudflare a monopoly of the internet traffic? Isn't the whole self-hosting movement about breaking out of the tech giants' shenanigans and promoting a healthy alternative with a decentralized and robust internet?

Just a reminder that this is the result of the greenhouse gases emitted a generation ago, and that since we went from 355ppm to 420ppm of CO2 in the atmosphere. The war in Ukraine and global food shortage is a blip in what's to come.

I know her works because they overlap with some of my hobbies, in other words, I "know" her for what she does, but not so much the side of her activism on social media. If I got myself trapped in some controversy, and that just mentioning some aspects of it is taboo, then so be it, I'll make sure to stay away from the vendetta.

Ok, not to be pedant, but it's her activism that got her in trouble, not Vice? Just trying to connect the dots between this message and the previous one.

Also, not defending Vice, I did read the article and it looks like Naomi freaked out and lashed at Vice on social media before she even got to read the piece about her, which might have Streisanded the same things she wanted to keep under the rug (ironically and to the point, despite having watched many videos of her, it's your post that made me aware of the matter of her sexuality, which I suspect not many of her followers in the maker space care about).

Can you elaborate? To me it reads like she outed herself by going against tencent, or more probably/accurately, her government and one of its convenience spyware. She had already said for many years that she was under scrutiny, and her assumption was that her western followers would somehow compel the CCP to back off.

I'm not a hater, but for anyone paying attention that's ludicrous. With her knowledge, she couldn't be that naive.

And now they have Ukrainian-children rapists and murderers instead. Big fucking win.
