  • That is so amazing. Congrats!! It must feel incredible to make that kind of money now. A six-figure income seems almost to be the minimum a person should earn if they want to survive and live well in the world these days.

I never earned a huge salary (I think my highest was $27,000 in one year) as a healthcare worker, but I came into a family trust later in life when my parents kicked off. So now I have a lot of money in the bank - and like you, not anyone close to share it with.

The only good thing is I retired early and now pretty much have all my time to myself - nobody to share it with, but that's OK because I feel like I keep busy and I'm into things like painting and playing music and hiking - so I never feel like I have time to just sit and brood about things.

I just want to say congrats and you deserve to feel happy about your situation. I wish you all the best!!

  • If I had to pick one I'd probably go with pancake Beeeeecaaauusseee - they are the pancake-iest. I like waffles, but rarely get a good one at a restaurant. And usually the french toast is soggy and has one molecule of powdered sugar on it (if any).

The best thing I ever ate was a hot french toast casserole I had at a bed and breakfast in Ohio. It was made of very fluffy bread and had glazed pecans and a maple/brown sugar thing going on that was orgasmic. I wish I had that recipe.

  • In 'Merka we call men who abuse women and treat everyone else like idiots "a creative maverick of an individual." See Ernest Hemingway, Bob Fosse, J. D. Salinger for examples.

  • I don't give a damn about catching flies (good analogy for trumpers BTW) with honey. The perverted supporters of trump are traitors to not only our country but to humanity as a whole and are filthy excrement. I care about the wholesale extermination of filth.

I care about a cleansing across the globe of all the rightwing filthmongers who exist. We are the better tomorrow the world needs, and first we must clear the earth of their sick perversion by any means.

  • Loved Wonder Showzen though I never got to see it when it first aired. Really irreverent and crazy stuff. I loved the "Horse Apples" episode with no pretense of not making fun of rednecks and going as far as possible into tasteless territory. Not for everyone, but in a way I wish TV had more balls like this.

  • So when YOU call someone a baseless and slanderous term (and derogatory name - which unless you're also a liar you must admit is the purpose of calling me such a name) somehow it isn't slander? Wrong - and I see how your mind works. And I now have your admission of guilt as well.

  • I don't know of any off hand, I was in a discussion with someone else here about linguistics but because I disagreed with a point they made, they called me an idiot and stopped communicating. I mean, right there is an example of what I mean about being open to other people's ideas rather that dismissive of everything.

Like I said I'm an English major and have always been a short story writer, so language is quite important to me and yet I know that some of my ideas are from the older ways of thinking about language (after all, it was over 40 years ago that I got my degree). And I try not to ever deliberately exclude people if I happen to use old-school ways of labeling men and women.

That comes from the place I was educated and the beliefs I had growing up, not any desire to be ignorant to others at all. In fact I always hope that my writing can reach across barriers in some way.

  • That's the problem, you people think we can win by being "better" than they are. And that's a total falsehood. Our enemies don't lay awake at night wondering if they're being "better" or good people; they only plot to kill us off without a second thought.

If we want to win this war we must be as ruthless and committed to destruction as they are. It's them or us - and it's time to wake up and see that the situation really is that desperate, and not waste time worrying about "being better than" our enemies.

  • I'm definitely already on the FBI watched list which I was made aware of when federal officers came to my home a couple years ago to ask me to cease and desist with threats to other public officials. I really am on their list - and oddly enough I don't care at all.

I have nothing left to lose but we have an entire country that could go down in flames here and then we'll all be wishing for death.

  • Well I'm a cis male also, and very openly gay (though I still don't really think that word describes anything about me other than sexual preference). It's great that you are secure enough to be able to enjoy the possibilities of wearing anything you want, including ear rings or ear piercings or nail polish.

And yeah, I mean I'm open about being gay but I don't own a rainbow flag or a teddy bear, and my favorite film isnt' "The Wizard of oz." (How'd that even get associated with us is something I'm still baffled about). Yet people can sometimes tell I'm gay, and some are cool with it while others suddenly seem like I insulted their mom and never talk to me again. Good for me!

You're right that we should at least try to be inclusive when we talk with each other. Insults and put downs just shut people down and keep them from having open honest communication.

Your paragraph makes perfect sense to me. I will say that I do sometimes find it very confusing what to say to say in gender-neutral situations. It's hard because I'm an English major and very old-school, so when someone says "they" to mean "her or him," it sort of feels like a road bump I overlooked but not on purpose.

if that makes sense. Language is alive and active and it should be inclusive also wherever possible. That also means not hating on people like me who sometimes still use pronouns in an old-school kind of way.
