  • There is a lot of abandonware and stuff where the companies just dissolved and ownership of any IP is questionable at best.

But also I don't think there's a way to give Nintendo/Game Freak money to play Gen 1 Pokemon at the moment? There's plenty of stuff like that. Sega and SquareEnix and some others have done a decent job of licensing/re-releasing some games. But there's plenty out there that they 'could' release and seemingly have no interest.

  • There's quirkiness and [whimsy?], and there's needless obfuscation. 'Code Yellow' meaning 'Code Red' is dumb. Like I get it, it probably started as an equivalent to 'Code Wayne' and subverting expectations is funny, but it's a punchline from an old adult swim show more than anything. I get that Google HQ isn't a Hospital or the military, but sometimes clarity is important. More now because they're actively doing contracts for governments and militaries, not a scrappy startup. They became a trusted resource and are now cannibalizing themselves for short term gains.

Whimsy at the top of a company while their workers are protesting their actions isn't great.

  • Well.. yeah. The 13 is smaller. I bought it before the 16 was a thing. The geometry as designed doesn't allow 3 banks of slots.

I'm just saying, the 16 having 6 total slots, one or more of which can be an audio jack, is an upgrade. I have the audio jack module anyway specifically because it occasionally works better to have the jack on the right side of the laptop instead of the left, and then the built-in jack is vestigial.

It not being mega-ultra-built-in doesn't matter.

  • As someone with the 13, I would prefer the 6 slots on the 16 to the 4+headphone jack on the 13.

The best part of the modular slots is you can swap the side the jack is on for whatever works best or have it on both. (Through the magic of buying two of them.) Also if something goes wrong with the jack it's significantly easier to replace.

  • If you're running HA in a docker, you need to run additional containers for add-ons. This is called out in the docs. Add-ons are only for HA OS or if you install it natively, with the supervisor (HA Supervised).

If you are willing to dedicate a device to just HA you don't need separate containers for the add-ons. For ease of use that makes a lot of sense, it's, pretty plug and play.

Personally the Pi I'm running it on can handle a lot more than just HA so a docker makes more sense, and just have the add-ons I'm using also defined in the docker compose file.

  • Star Wars does make the laser / blaster bolt distinction like Star Trek makes the laser / phaser distinction.

But it also calls it the "main Death Star laser". Which is probably just a holdover from before a lot of that got hammered out in the old EU and carried into the new Star Wars stuff. But would also require some retcon backflips to make it "not a laser".

  • Have a few ebooks and audiobooks in calibre that have been removed from Amazon/Audible. Nothing dramatic drama wise as far as I can tell other than the license expiring/moving.

It's nice not having to worry about it.

  • The military is a lot more tolerant about working around running aircraft than civilians. Nominally there's a lot more training/drilling/etc to keep situational awareness up... But also occasionally someone walks into a prop or gets sucked into a jet.

I'm sure this'll spawn a new series of briefings.

Not sure how it'll work with any payouts since she was a contractor. In general you're being paid more at the cost of less of the compensation packages that service members get.

  • Ditto, not logged in, incognito (so no cookies/history, I know it's not actually incognito), VPN exiting in Canada. old.reddit working fine.

Could also be a staggered rollout thing? VPN/endpoint dependent while they gather data on endpoints?

  • During prohibition grape (formerly wine) producers sold grape juice with the warning label "don't store in a cool dark place for multiple weeks or this product may become illegal". (or something to that effect) You can do much the same with any grain or fruit.

For Marijuana you have to at least get seeds/the plant first, which are now a controlled product. Yeah it'll grow anywhere (hence "weed"), but you still have to source it and plant it somewhere with sunlight.

Brewing at scale and/or for a specific product is difficult, making alcohol is easy.

  • Partial and group ownership is incredibly common now because everything is so expensive. I'm making ~$60k and 'own' 1/20th of a plane (Cessna 177) that none of us could reasonably afford alone. Admittedly that's not struggling, but it's not a ton of money in my part of the country either. It's just prioritizing spending on getting to fly instead of other hobbies.

Most flight instructors / people going for the airlines are in similar partnerships or at a flight school using those small planes to eventually get enough hours to go to the airlines. They're usually making less than I am.
