  • In a way it is a bit sad though. It gives a more rigid feeling to things. "about quarter past" would usually be something between :10 and :20. There is room for interpretation and time feels more available with less demanded precision.

  • It is not a new story though. A family member argued about a traffic accident, that the description provided by the other side is physically impossible. The judge replied, that physics would not count for humans.

A lot of people who study law do so, because they are terrible at sciences.

  • New York Times writer Michael Fridman likened the Arab middle eastern Countries to insects, inclduing "parasitic wasps" and suggested to "burn down the jungle" as a means to solve the conflict with Israel. This was published by the New York Times.

It is quite literally the same language that Goebbels used, likening the Jews to rats and calling them parasites.

  • There is a regular governmental press conference, usually monday, wednesday and friday where the speakers of the chancellor and the ministries are invited by an independant journalist organization. The organization is called Bundespressekonferenz.

Since about ten years the journalist Tilo Jung is recording most of the press conferences and uploading them to his youtube channel I highly recommend you to watch the latest video on the massacre in Gaza. The current government called it an "tragic use of shooting weapons".

I cannot find the specific video right now, because the topic of mass surveillance through automated scanning of messengers, or by allowing back doors has been a topic since at least the past 5 or 6 years. Please note that i was refferring not to this but the previous german government, albeit the current chancellor party SPD was also in the previous government and the chancellor Scholz was the last finance minister under Merkel.

If you believe my statement to be implausible without video evidence, i'd like to invite you to meet our former minister of defence in the current government, Lambrecht, who resigned after referring to the war in Ukraine as an opportunity to have met many nice people in a social media video. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-64288267

Before she was defence minister under this goverment, she was minsiter of justice under the previous government. There she demanded that all websites should hand passwords over to the police as demanded. When it was pointed out that there is no use with hashed passwords, she asked to just safe them in plain text then. Alongside where further demands for extensive backdoors, violation of encryption and automatic scanning. It took months of heavy criticism to get her to drop it, despite the main point being that most of what she proposed was in violation of other laws including EU regulation.

  • Mein Kampf is a pretty poor source to understand the roots of fascism. People have this idea, that Hitler was some elaborate writer, who laid out a comprehensive and enchanting piece of work, that was then surrounded by mysticism.

You don't understand the roots of fascism from books written by fascists. You understand it from looking at fascists in action, both on the side of agitators and those following the agitation. And the roots are pretty simple: Combine fear with hatred and an inferiority complex, mix it with simple solutions and by elevating individuals of the in-group by terrorizing the out-group.

  • No it is amazing. It is so amazing to read, that a Turkish origined comedian took it up on him to read it to Germans, to show them just how great it was.

Resulting in even some hardcore Nazis to end up laughing, because the book is just completely utter horseshit.

  • When asked about employing mass surveillance, in particular also spying on Journalists, Doctors and Lawyers, the previous German government replied, that it is fine if we do it. After all we are not like Russia, China or Saudi Arabia, so those people have nothing to fear...

If we could power the earth from Orwell turning in his grave, we would have solved cliamte change long ago.

  • Just pull yourself up by your bootstrap in the morning and get the work done before the sun is up, sissy.

But don't you dare drilling that wall before i woke up and enjoyed my breakfast!

    The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
    honest and fair,
    friendly and helpful,
    considerate and caring,
    courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
    and to
    respect myself and others,
    respect authority,
    use resources wisely,
make the world a better place,
and be a sister to every Girl Scout

Caring for starving children is the most principled thing by the principles of the organization. Anybody who has targeted them for their activities shows that they are in direct contradiction to about everything the girl scouts stand for.

  • As AMD, Intel, Tenstorrent, and other companies develop better hardware, more software developers will be inclined to design for these platforms, and Nvidia's CUDA dominance could ease over time. Furthermore, programs specifically developed and compiled for particular processors will inevitably work better than software run via translation layers, which means better competitive positioning for AMD, Intel, Tenstorrent, and others against Nvidia — if they can get software developers on board. GPGPU remains an important and highly competitive arena, and we'll be keeping an eye on how the situation progresses in the future.

I hope this plays out like this. Compete on the hardware and provide open source access to acceleration. If you provide the best value for the hardware, people will continue to buy it over your competitiors.

  • From what i understood from the new last week tonight episode, they were just lucky, that the door fell off already, before they reached altitude. Otherwise all the passengers would propbably have died. I think 20 million dollars is perfectly appropriate for being subjected to hours of panicy fear of death.

And if you would put your life on the line to win 20 Million Dollars, that is your personal choice. I wouldnt.

Finally you need to consider that the 1 Billion is the start of negotiation, and the companies will aim for much lower. If they just start with idk. say 100 million, the company would try to haggle it down to 10 million.

  • The US is the single strongest supporter and protector of Israel. The US is sending billions of weapons to Israel and has continued to do so. The US continues to veto resolutions against the genocide in the UN security council.

The responsibility is by no means exclusive to the US, but given the share of responsibility of the US for enabling this genocide, their share in resolving it, must be equally high. There used to be an effective means of providing aid to Gaza. The UNRWA. But the US and other Israel supporters like Germany decided to sabotage it, the day after the ICJ ruled that Gaza needs more humanitarian aid to prevent a genocide. The sabotage remains on unproven accusations of Israel against a laughably small number of UNRWA employees.

Aid convoys don't need to be protected by soldiers, if enough aid enters Gaza. The people are not "animals" or "plundering" or "rioting" or whatever terminology is used by pro Israeli propaganda. They are starving people desperate for food. Provide enough food and there is no fighting about it.

  • Isn't that exactly what is said? The growth of people x consumption is finite and there needs to be a system change to represent that. It does not specify how the factors are balanced in relation to each other.

  • Does penalties in this case also mean compensation of the renters, whose wealth has been potentially robbed through illegal practices?

  • The German government called it an unfortunate use of weapons (originally "Schusswaffen" translating to shooting weapons)

  • Rule

    Jump
  • But then the one who is to be held accountable is the human who made it, or the human who used it.

When a plane crashes it isnt the planes fault either.

  • In Gaza live more than 2 million people, of which almost everyone is facing starvation right now, while having no access to clean water and the medical infrastructure is practically nonexistent. To provide everyone with the bare minimum, you'd need to drop in about 20 kg per person and day. That would be a kilo of rice/flour/potatoes, another kilo of protein and vitamin sources, 15 litres of drinking water and the rest being hygienic supplies, medical supplies, blankets, tents, clothes...

That makes up 40.000 tonnes of daily deliveries. That is equal to about 4.000 normal trucks that need to enter Gaza every single day, or about 3 trucks every single minute.

That is the scale we are talking about. If the US used all their 450 CH-47 helicopters for this mission, with each one being able to load about a 10 tonne load, they'd be flying nonstop. And there is no way to station these off of one aircraft carrier. It would be a huge logistics mission, requiring the use of a proper land supplied air field nearby. And if you think, the US has better transport options, the C-130 line can only load 6 pallets at a time, so effectively not more, while requiring even better airfields.

Sanders is absolutely right. Air-Drops are nothing but a thin veil to pretend doing something about the issue. But the only way to provide sustained relief is through an extensive ground transport mission.

If you want just a rough idea of what we are actually talking about in terms of logistics here, have a look at the Berlin airlift That was about the same number of people, although they had access to clean drinking water.

  • I disagree. Thge main purpose of Israel to the US is to sow division amongst the Middle Eastern countries and to keep the US allied countries under control. Putting the countries against each other and putting the people against their leaders, but in a way that is still supressable with US support, is the cynical way of keeping the region weak. China made it happen that both Saudi Arabia and Iran have joined the BRICS. If those two were to reconcile with each other, the US strategy would fail. By confronting Saudi Arabia with a clear moral failure, that they are yet unable to speak up about, they make it more difficult for Saudi Arabia to seek alliances outside the US influence. At the same time the people are angry with their leader to he needs the US arms support to be able to supress his people, if shit would hit the fan.

It is only creating a headache for Biden because not only are the Israelis commiting genocide in Gaza, they feel so sure about themselves, that they are also bragging about it. If the Israeli public, in particular the supporters of Netanyahu wouldn't be so bloodthirsty, that they demand the genocide to be accompanied by genocidal rethoric, the US and Israel could do about the same, while keeping it under the rug.

  • Sorry but this is just wrong. Israel is very explicit about attacking all Palestinians. They are also explicit about their plans to drive them from their Land even more. The US full well knows and supports the Israeli plan to commit genocide and mass displacement to the Palestinians.

The only purpose of the current actions is to create a veil of deniability, to not be charged as a direct accomplice in the crimes. If the US had a genuine interest to fight Hamas, while helping the Palestinians, they would have sanctioned Israel to hell decades ago, established a new UN mandate and return the stolen land, while providing proper justice and opportunity to the Palestinian people, until either two equal or one united state is founded.

The US has been enabling Israel in its crimes against the Palestinians and through this enabled Hamas, as well as helped the Israeli government to help Hamas, which Netanyahu himself was very outspoken about.
