I don't know. Hezbollah is certainly stronger than in 2006 in relation to the rest of Lebanon. But i don't know if they are stronger in relation to the IDF. On top there is the question how much support each side would receive.

I think that this is secondary to Netanyahu though. His political survival (and staying out of jail) depends on continuing war. And i think he expects the US, UK and Germany to support Israel no matter what. That is also why now US Elites are drumming up for war and why Iran and allies want the US military out of Iraq and Iraq wants them out to not become a warzone again.

The question will be how much support the US can muster in its population.

I believe that they will start annexing south of Lebanon, if it is politically possible. Thats why theyneed an escalation with Hezbollah, to justifiy needing the areas as "security buffer".

If there was some security risk to consider, it would still be cheaper by a factor of 100 or more to just buy a business class ticket and buy some tickets for the security guards too. I am sure, there is also options to organize not going through the public check-in of the airport and to be able to board the plane discreetly before the normal boarding.

Also it is very easy to defend someone on a public plane. the aisles don't allow for more than one attacker at once, and i am sure there is enough tall muscular men for hire to block all aisles.

Try having a concert without any of these. There is hundreds of people working to make stadion concerts happen.

Afterwards the goals shifted, as normalisation will be impossible for the next years, and public opinion is weakening the resolve to support them from the West. Also Netanyahus claim to power, despite his corruption and other criminal activities was always, that he would he the only one to provide safety to the Israelis. He failed on that promise and the only thing jeeping him in power is a continued war.

Hezbollah made clear in the beginning, that they are not interested in a stronger escalation. Your argument was that Hezbollah was supplied through these countries. Are you now claiming Hamas is supplied through them currently? There is about 200km of Israel, including most of the population centers between Lebanon and Gaza.

But to the other point. You seem to imply that escalation is partisan, e.g. there is the "good side" that is not escalating a conflict, when it uses violence and a "bad side" where any action in the conflict is seen as escalation, even actions preceeding violence. But that is not how conflicts work. You could just as easily claim that Iran had to arm these groups to prevent an escalation through deterrence. It would be equally silly.

In the currrent iteration of the conflict Israel is escalating things through attacking places that werent involved before to cause a stronger reaction, after Hezbollah showed in the beginning, that they were only interested in a "show of support" to Hamas but not a further escalation of fights.

If you look further at the motivations and opportunities of the actors, it becomes even more clear. Israel claims that Iran would have orchestrated the attack by Hamas. If that was the case, it would have made more sense for Hezbollah and other Iranian allies to immediately attack on 07. October or right after. Israel was in disarray, and the US didnt increase it's military presence yet. Instead Hezbollah and Iran mostly left it at words, which indicates that Hamas was not acting on their behalf.

If we look at the motivation of Israel, we see a government that is extremely fragile, with a ptime minister charged with multiple crimes, who has failed his people on his only promise of safety and hasno support left in the public. The only thing keeping Netanyahu in power is a continued war. The global sentiment is changing, as Israel is now held responsible for its actions in Gaza at the ICJ and the arguement of "self defense" is less and less accepted with the level of destruction and death in Gaza. Israel needs to escalate tensions in order to stabilize international support.

I have to disagree heavily there. Thermic plastic disposal is standard in many developed countries and cleaning of combustion exhaust gases is an established and reliable technology.

It just costs money and requires regulatory oversight, that some countries like to cut on.

You gave heavy metals as an example. No mushroom can clean away heavy metals. They can only break down molecular components. Heavy metals are one of the compounds why thermal disposal is necessary. You can wash the heavy metals out of the exhaust gas, concentrate them and then store them in more dedicated facilities, e.g. old salt mines.

Landfills regularly leak. As the plastics are not decomposing by themselves, you end up with infrastructure that needs to be maintained forever. Otherwise you just move the problem into the future. And for plastics that do decompose somewhat in a landfill it is less controlled than in a dedicated recycling or disposal facility.

At the same time burning plastics at a high enough temperature and washing the exhaust gas, can effectively remove them from existence. The most common plastics like PET, PE, PP, and many more can be burnt cleanly, e.g. the only product will be CO2. Plastics like PVC need more dedicated facilities, but it is perfectly possible.

Landfills are always the worst option of waste treatment, except for just tossing stuff into the environment directly. We shouldn't hope for some mushroom to eventually deal with the problem. The first step is to reduce the production of plastic wastes. The second is to deal with collection and recycling/disposal properly. Neither steps are taken properly in the current capitalist economy with externalized costs.

Israel can only continue to subjugate the Palestinians in Gaza to these inhumane conditions, if they receive continued support from the US. All public calls for moderation have been ignored or renounced, yet the US continues to increase its military aid to Israel. Israel is not only facing a case of genocide, where the highest court of the world deemed it "plausible" that Israel is committing genocide and also demanded specific actions and omissions to prevent genocide by Israel. High ranking Israeli officials, including the President, the Prime Minister, the minister of Defence and high ranking army officials have been explicitly called out by the ICJ for a rhetoric that is indicative of genocidal intent.

If a child is told by its parents not to set things on fire, but at the same time is given another lighter and gasoline, it is clear that the parents do want the child to continue. Even more so as many other parents have told the child to stop and the parents defended their child against those people.

The US has all the means to stop Israel. Instead they are enabling Israel even further. If you want nuance, don't just look at the words. Look at the actions taken.

Well there is a simple remedy, and it is the same like for rust. Keep it dry. All microbial live needs water just as much as larger liveforms. If it is dry it can't spoil, even if there is microorganisms on it. They might be alive, but they'll be in stasis without sufficent accessible water. accessibility is also important here. E.g. salty water or water with high amounts of sugar are not useful to most microorganisms.

We have a simple biologocial solution for all of that. Peatlands. They transfer the carbon into more and more stable chemical compounds that end up being sequestered. All the coal that is extracted now used to be peat some hundred million years ago.

It is not a matter of conversion. most plastics can be recycled or burnt cleanly. It is a matter of collection, sorting and operationg the recycling facilities at an economic rate. The last thing can be done easily. Just introducing a high enough tax on non recycled plastics would do the trick.

As always in capitalism plastic waste is not an issue that lacks technological means. What lacks is the economic and political will to deal with it.

Plastic is also such an unspecific term. In regards to biodegradability there is no reason why PE, PP, PVC, PLA, PS and all the others should behave similiarly. Aside from some form of polymerization they are entirely different chemicals.
