  • There are many stories on how the receiver of a transplant has felt themselves being "changed", sometimes in ways that would remind people of the donor.

  • No, they should be where no entity outside of European jurisdiction can influence their messaging.

The EU commission has their own Mastodon instance. That's how all public services should do it.

  • That's just replies to a post. It doesn't solve not all posts reaching everybody.

  • It cannot be "fixed" unless you centralize into a single firehose like Xitter and Bluesky.

Those of us running smaller instances can choose to use relays and fetcher-tasks - and there is a PR to put one such fetcher into Mastodon - but if the goal is 100% of everybody always sees 100% of the content then no decentralized solution will ever offer that.

  • If you know better than Dr Mann perhaps you should publish a few papers?

It sounds more like you're one of those doomists he describes.

  • Tell that to Michael Mann, perhaps one of the most distinguished climate scientists:

“Actually, the warming of the planet is very much in line with early climate model predictions. Some impacts, such as ice sheet melt and sea level rise, and the slowdown of the ocean ‘conveyor belt’ are exceeding those predictions.” Current policies alone likely keep warming below 3°C (5.4°F), nowhere near the “worst-case” scenarios.

  • Why do you need to understand any of that? Now, none of it is wrong - but it's not something anyone signing up at a Mastodon instance absolute must know about to use the system and have a good troll-free social network experience.

On the contrary. Maybe those are exactly the things needed to avoid becoming Xitter. Bluesky is rapidly becoming another instance of the hellhole at this very moment.

  • What do you need to understand about the technical concepts? Join an instance (mastodon.social if you have no reason to select another one), post and follow.

  • The only race on the calendar I truly don't care if I miss.

  • We're seeing a substantial increase on the Mastodon instance I help moderate too, but there's no aggregate marketing department at Mastodon so we don't get any headlines.

  • You want Matrix. Synapse if you intend to host for others, Conduit if you just want to host for yourself. There are quite a few different clients but I do indeed use ElementX on mobile.

  • I think this would be a good time for you to study the subject you intend to discuss.

In February 2015, Russia and Ukraine signed the Minsk II agreements

Beginning in 2021, there was a massive Russian military buildup near Ukraine's borders, including within neighbouring Belarus. Russian officials repeatedly denied plans to attack Ukraine.

  • So if Russia and Ukraine instead sign a peace deal with borders similar to where they are now, and Russia doesn't invade the rest of europe and Georgia, will you do any introspection?

In 2014 Russia invaded Crimea and the easternmost part of Ukraine. Then said the had absolutely no intention of expanding.

    Cue 2022.

At which point did you do your introspection?

  • At least four cars had switched to full wets at the time.

  • I don't get the Safety Car for "teams are on the wrong tires". Some had already switched to full wets. Surely this should be up to the teams to screw up instead of relying on the organizers to save them staying out on inters.

  • It's difficult to root for Norris to catch up to Verstappen when he's clearly not up to the task in all conditions.

conspiracy hat on: Red Bull is surely right that other teams are cheating with water in the tires. Look what happens when it's wet so they have no use for it.

    ... just kidding. Maybe.
