  • I know someone who just got hired at an unfinished Meta data center, ostensibly to do some low-level hardware monitoring and maintenance. His boss admitted that he accidentally hired people a couple months too early, so the first couple weeks have consisted of sitting around, eating free food and playing mobile games. Next week they're being flown to an active data center out of state, but they won't have much of their own work to do for another 4-6 weeks.

So these guys are being paid $25/hr, 40hrs a week, with a free lunch, and making no money for the company. I would expect any other company to find this unacceptable, but it's just a drop in the bucket for Meta.

  • This is the closest to my philosophy. I keep a few $1 bills in my car and hand them out to anyone who asks. I'm not interested in judging whether they look like they need it, or what I think they'll spend it on. I just want them to know they're not invisible.

  • To your first point, there was a story about the alarming number of searches for "did Biden drop out" but it didn't mention that this would have included searches like "when did Biden drop out" and "why did Biden drop out." So it was a half true and half clickbait.

  • Doesn't seem that suspicious to me. One person could be supplying dozens of users who hang around that area. If they're all doing the same batch, and the batch is too strong, it follows that something like this would happen.

  • My god, that must have been a horrible scene. There are a few intersections in my city that have become hubs for fent users and it's very sad to see. I don't cast any moral judgments, but it is visually disturbing to see people frozen or slumped over.

  • I also wonder if they'll make sure the red states aren't hit as hard. I know the way the bill is written, we assume it'll be enforced equally, and since red states receive more federal assistance they'll be hit the worst. But what's stopping them from selectively fucking blue states?
