  • On a positive note the incompetent morons trying to harass this dev have now blown this game up a fair bit more than it would've gotten otherwise, so hopefully she'll make enough money to be able to comfortably ignore the morons.

I'm going to look into it, not sure if I'll buy or not but it certainly seems like an interesting game.

If anyone else is interested this is the games steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2378900/The_Coffin_of_Andy_and_Leyley/

Overwhelmingly positive so far, pretty good looking reviews as well.

  • I absolutely detest these incompetent trash journalists pretending like this is JUST a mars problem.

If you've ever eaten chocolate or seen chocolate on a shelf a child slave was used to acquire it.

There is not a single large-scale chocolate operation that does not utilize child slavery in the supply chain and pretending like this is 'only a mars issue' is fucking disgusting

  • Tesla will allow a union the same time mcdonalds or starbucks allows a union.

We can pretend unions will solve the problems but the reality is regardless of what any worker wants their jobs are going to be automated so it needs to be a group effort to force the allowance of free re-education/re-training into a different profession (i.e. UBI with stipulations that you must retrain into a new job until all jobs are automated).

There are no other options and you can't expect a company to keep a position open for a human that needs breaks, sleep and to eat when their competition is automating fully and saving more money than they are because they were forced to or chose to keep humans on staff.

This is not the age where unions have any effective impact, especially when almost every job available today will be eliminated in the next decade through direct mechanical automation or AI automation.

The only thing unions can do is push protectionism and that will kill the economy by killing companies and then we lose the companies, the tax revenue AND the jobs.

  • Society's views on sexuality will change before we will EVER get a serious handle on deepfakes. If you're rich and can afford the lawyers, go ham and sue, otherwise, time to just accept that humans are animals and animals fuck.

Whether or not someone is or is not in a porn video is less important than whether or not they can do whatever job or task they've been given.

Religious puritanical morons and prudes need to stfu and get over it, the victims need to cope with reality that this is never going away and they can spend their entire life and fortune on 'finding the one who did this' or just move on and put energy into something worthwhile.

Even complaining about this is hysterically moronic. The 'big threat' is fake porn.

Fixing the child care system so that child abuse, emotional, physical and sexual gets reduced even 1% would be immensely more worthwhile a task than literally any ending of a pursuit against a technology that is open source and widely available, not to mention even if it was made illegal in your country, good luck actually enforcing a law like that without going 110% dystopia with locked down internet that would make current chinese life look like a kind big brother system.

  • I am of the opinion that these 'before/after' memes about twitter are disingenuous because that website has always been a heaping pile of shit and the vast majority of people on it don't have the mental acumen to actually reflect or critically think on most subjects, and that's a happy spin on how twitter was before musk bought it.

If anything he just unleashed the fools from every 'group' that masterfully fail at grasping even the most basic explanation of nuance and tried to cash in on it (and failed in one of the most typical ways a formerly public company could fail, under the weight of sheer ineptitude).

  • This football coach from the ivy leagues has the audacity to pretend to know what military service is like without having educated himself at the bare minimum nor actually serving to provide a serious opinion on the matter.

The fact this incompetent malcontent continues to receive the support of his constituents is truly representative of how unbelievably fucked humanity is.

  • Ah, another keyboard warrior that would prefer to push an agenda rather than acknowledge facts of the matter.

Well if you ever decide to pick up a history textbook or actually read up on the history of the area and the groups we're talking about feel free to hit me up again.

  • Asking that the experiments are replicated in order to verify their reliability is not a political stance.

Insuring veracity shouldn't be on a left or right spectrum, everyone should be aspiring to be as correct as possible, regardless of the politicking.

  • Ah, so you completely miss the point of my comment and immediately go for personal insults instead of engaging with the realities that I noted.

It's odd that so many people using lemmy lack effective critical thinking skills.

It always has to be 'an attack' on you or your group instead of acknowledging serious flaws in both what was presented in the article and what is happening on the ground compared to what has happened in history.

  • I would personally recommend EndeavourOS or PopOS.

    https://endeavouros.com/

    https://pop.system76.com/

I recommend EndeavourOS primarily because of it's ease of use and rolling distro means you'll have access to the latest bug fixes and patches (and a very active and supportive community), whereas it does come with the drawback of requiring to fix things every now and then if you've installed packages from places other than endeavour/Aur or require packages/apps that are older.

Yay (package manager) is very easy to get using as a beginner, however, if you don't want rolling updates and just large update packages similar in scope to windows service pack updates I'd recommend popos or the sister/base os ubuntu. (fedora apparently may be good in this instance as well but I've very little contact with the OS and have been avoiding RHEL-related products recently because of their anti-consumer and anti-open source actions recently).

Ultimately it's definitely recommended that you try a few distro's to get a feel for what you like and then customize to your hearts content.

https://distrowatch.com/ if you'd like a more in depth review of various distros and what their performance bonuses or problems are.

EndeavourOS with xfce4 is very clean and quick to pick up with their little introductory/learning module that they include (once installed or on live, it will provide a popup that includes the following):

  • The correlation to jim crowe and red lining is exceptionally clear in regards to criminal behaviour of individuals whose families were impacted by those laws, that's not in question, how much of an impact it has is definitely in question. i.e. do they commit to these behaviours because of a society that pushed them to do this, or are they using the excuse of an unfortunate past to commit these behaviours? Are individuals in power actually using racist agenda to dictate policy or are they following empirical facts. I would hazard that the latter is emphatically not the case. I do believe many lawmakers use empirical data, but in regards to criminality and racial tension, I'm of the opinion that most lawmakers just throw their personal views and opinions behind their actions as opposed to the research and evidence therein (here, plainly, we see the negative impact that the liar has had because now EVERY research paper is questioned because the vast majority use 1 or more of his papers as referential material.

For the same reason people of jewish heritage claiming the holocaust negatively impacts them when they're 2-3 generations removed, sure it impacts them in how they were raised by their parents and how their parents were raised by their parents, but beyond that? Extremely doubtful that the event that changed the world only impacts the jewish community, especially when the concentration camps killed scores of people from every background with emphasis on minorities, the mentally disabled and the queer community.

I am not saying to disregard the research as a whole, I'm saying we need to repeat all of the research to verify the findings are accurate and reliable as opposed to just going 'well I see one bad thing and another bad thing and although they're clearly correlated, I'm arbitrarily going to note they're causally related'.
