  • I have contact with someone trying to float the idea because she doesn't understand tech.

To her, it's because it's the biggest IT outage ever and it happened 6 days after the failure to assassinate Trump.

  • If you're referring to audiophiles, I believe it's because they are acknowledging they know enough to say they are an amateur but recognize there are people who call themselves an audiophile just because they say "vinyl is the superior sound" without any justification of that opinion, which is an accurate observation of the divisions amongst audiophiles.

  • Better is definitely relative, but I think vinyl is much more enjoyable and experience for me personally.

also, I don't like the crackle so I religiously clean each side of the disk to remove any dust before playing and it sounds wonderful. I've gotten compliments to that effect so definitely worth the effort.

  • Can confirm, just wish other people around the fediverse would realize you can adore and speak out against Israel without being antisemitic. To clarify I mean that can you speak out against genocide AND that you don't have to say shit like "fuck the Jews".

Been fighting that bullshit since Israeli Trump started his genocide.

  • I don't have anything to say that the previous comment or stated. Thanks for the valid point but please don't tell me "oh no you weren't insulted". I was and stating or implying I wasn't is exactly as fucked up as someone doing it to a trans person.

  • My issue is only ever hearing it intended as an insult. I don't really qualify as cis anymore (pansexual now) but when I did I disliked it because I only heard it with that negative connotation.

  • That's a fair question.

In consideration, take the Jim Crow laws from the USA. These laws enforced racial segregation and allowed for abject racism and abhorrent conditions/treatment of black people. In short, they supported racism.

Now one could say "but the people were the ones to carry it out" which sure, but then we might as well start asking ourselves how much government really matters and other philosophical questions. I don't think the people are innocent, but to focus on your question, that's an example of how political policy and laws can support things. The laws enable the legal environment, the people then carry it out.
