  • Absolute nonsense - an English speaking doctor would be very successful in many Quebec communities, likewise a French speaking doctor would have a lot of success in many communities outside of Quebec. There's also just as many non-English/French communities where this would be a "problem". Regulating what language a doctor "must" speak would be just another wasteful bureaucratic hoop.

  • She might get some exceptions or reductions because of her bootlicking, but keeping them is going to mean keeping up with Trump's changing demands. It's a short-sighted way that will result in a complete loss of our sovereignty - though she's probably fine with that 🙄

  • Disagree on your assessment of why PR failed, but I agree with it being the bottom of my priorities right now. Back in 2013 I voted Liberal for the first time (normally an NDP voter) purely for electoral reform - it's incredibly important for the long term health of our democracy. However, we're in an economic crisis, and I really think we need to survive the next few years before we can worry about long term health, and I think Carney is the right guy for that. I will be happy to see him replaced with someone more progressive down the road.

  • She specifically writes that it's no different between the Liberals and Conservatives, and goes further to say Carney would pave the road for someone worse than PP. That's just straight up delusional.

  • This is how I feel (and I don't really like Singh anyway). Gould is probably my favourite candidate of the Liberals, but I think Carney is what we need to get us through tough times, so I ranked Carney first.

  • This is even more wishy-washy than Trudeau's electoral reform promises, so we can safely assume this will also go nowhere.

I'm also sick of hearing about UBI that is income-adjusted, because then it's just welfare, which is a different concept altogether.

  • On one hand it's pathetic that it took him this long to realize (or he's lying to everyone), but it's still better than my premier (Danielle Smith) who is still licking Trump's boots despite the existential threat to Canada and especially Alberta. It would be a massive upgrade to see her admitting something like this :/

  • I don't consider $1.3B in spending on border security for a 30 day pause as a victory here. After 30 days, what's the next thing that Trump is going to manipulate our country into doing? This is a test of our sovereignty and we are losing.

  • My issue with the carbon tax has always been that consumers are not able to afford to make choices that reduce their consumption. For example, renters are unable to stop using gas heating. Most people cannot afford electric cars, or if they can, the infrastructure to actually charge it (house / garage).

Also, although it's obvious how much carbon tax I'm paying on my own gas bills, it's not clear to me how much food prices have gone up as a result of carbon tax on the transportation of that food.
