  • “you won’t get shamed by iOS users anymore if Apple would just pick this up”

Meanwhile, Google Voice doesn't even have it enabled!

  • I know so many people that have no issues paying what they borrowed, but at this point, they've already paid back the initial amount and still owe more than they initially borrowed and it's fucking ridiculous.

  • Yeah, if Relay showed up with an app for KBin and wanted $30, I'd give it in a heartbeat, but being a long time user, I'd also feel like it's partially back pay for using it for years after only paying like $4

As it is, I'm really looking forward to Artemis launching and will probably do an equal donation of at least that much to its dev and to Ernest (/KBin social admin and /KBin dev).

The /KBin PWA isn't bad for what it is, but god damn do I miss using a proper app. At least y'all on Lemmy have options!

  • Won't that make you a better electrical conductor?

  • I understand completely that it makes no sense that their viewers are this stupid, but it also doesn't change the fact that they are.

  • Fox would own the fuck out of that.

The left makes us put this banner on here! We know you're smart people that can make your own choices about what is and is not "entertainment"! Now, for something I don't find at all entertaining, Biden once again oversteps his authority and ....

  • For a lifetime price of 40 or 50 I'd probably have just bought it and hoped the dev eventually adds /KBin support. For 110 it's off the table for me altogether and I'm not a fan of subscriptions.

With that said, I've never used this app that I remember on Reddit, so, maybe it is worth it??? I'd probably happily consider a lifetime price of that much if Relay got ported (and basically consider it back pay for getting like 6 or 7 years out of it for like 4 bucks).

It seems like either the dev is planning on the app running forever and wanting to not make the mistake of charging a couple bucks for a forever license OR they don't expect it to last and need to get as much $ as they can up front. Either way, I wish them the best of luck. Since I'm not a Lemmy user, I won't be buying, at that price.

  • /KBin isn't Lemmy and doesn't have a completed API yet (currently pending review), so apps are basically non existent for it.

Artemis is in the works using the in development API on their own instance and I think the scraping is still there as a fallback from what I've been reading, but that app is still in private beta while it's being worked on.

Even once the API is complete, there's no guarantee that Lemmy apps will support /KBin since presumably they're Lemmy users not /KBin ones. I believe the dev of Artemis, is planning to open source a translation layer though to make things easier for everyone so they don't have to re-do all the work she did.

  • It's fine when it's constructive, but when it comes down to "fuck socialists", "fuck their opinions", "fuck anything socialists make" and "Lemmy World is glitchy" I'm honestly not sure wtf they expect anyone to do with that information.

  • Nah, I at least would prefer if they didn't lol.

If OP dislikes "community" they're definitely going to bitch about magazines and start whining to try and get KBin to be more similar to Reddit. I think we're better off with them going back to R.

  • Works great for me too and has tons of options and flexibility.

No clue what they're talking about other than they clearly don't like FOSS:
Like most FOSS software, it’s ugly and doesn’t work.

For me, I wouldn't say it's ugly either, FWIW

  • What We Do In The Shadows
    Tucker and Dale VS Evil

Are the two that make me laugh no matter what.

Shoot Em Up too, but for different reasons.

  • @nebulaone is a Lemmy.World user & asked the question on a Lemmy.World community, I assume the question was directly asking if they'd be allowed to create the community on Lemmy.World.

In the .World code of conduct, the only things that I can see that might be problematic are:

    • Bullies, trolls and disruptors are not welcome in Mastodon.world. We will moderate accordingly.
    • Do not engage in name calling, ad hominem attacks, or any other uncivil behaviour. Criticize ideas, never people.

Since the concept of the sub as a whole seems like the above is kind of the entire point point, I think the rules bear mentioning, but as long as it's not directly talking about specific people in the Fediverse, I think they'd be ok based on the written spirit of the rules, as long as proper moderating is done within the community.

Worst case, OP would just need to find a new instance [as thread OP indicated] or spin up their own server.

ETA: Sorry that you deleted your comment! I don't think it really applied in this situation, but the info in there was still good!

  • I did that for years. Checked usage and found out the other couple people I was sharing with weren't using it anyways.

    Cancelled after 10 years.

Sure they might have gained a few subscribers short term, but are they the type to just let the sub roll for a decade straight or will they just watch what they want and cancel until they can re-sub and binge again?

  • Yeah, I've only ever seen it used as an admonishment against someone. Like, someone says something rude as fuck and they get told "don't yuck someone else's yum" ... which, isn't terrible, when it's advice being given to people acting like children.

Saying "I don't want to yuck your yum, but, the thing you like is blah-blah-blah" could easily be changed to "I'm an asshole and I think the things you like are blah-blah-blah" and the context of what was being said wouldn't change.

  • It's nowhere near as nice as a mobile app, but nowhere near as horrible as you'd expect either. All in all, I'm happy enough with it, but am anxiously waiting for Artemis to release (and for an official API to be created to allow others the ability without having to scrape).

  • It's especially infuriating because the Dems don't have to do anything to earn votes. All they have to do is be slightly less crazy and anyone who doesn't want outright facism has no choice but to vote for them, whether they accomplish anything or not.

ETA: ok, "slightly" in this context is doing a lot of heavy lifting lol, Dems are a lot less crazy!

  • But it's got Rose McIver in it and she's great (sidenote iZombie also let her show she's got a LOT of range)

  • If Meta does end up Federating, then Reddit would potentially be able to gain 100M (or whatever the latest crazy numbers are) potential viewers of ads disguised as content. That's a lot of eyeballs to try and make money off of!

For the Lemmy/KBin side, being able to potentially monetize the people that specifically left your shitty platform has to look somewhat appealing.
