  • This is specifically for train groping, for one, and literally has a whole section on what they are doing about it. I specifically wanted to know what was being cited here:

Lack of effort to stop sexual assault in Japan is well documented.

  • I mean, the vast majority of people here are not committing sexual assault. There is certainly work to be done with the justice system regarding reporting and prosecuting crimes, but it's not like Japan or Osaka or Tokyo just condone SA.

  • I still have a box full of all kinds of male-male, female-female, and female-male adapters somewhere for serial, parallel, VGA, etc.. I'm trying to recall the joke about them at the time, but there really aren't that many that I can think of. I think I heard the odd "I'd pay to see that" or "don't mention that in [location]"

  • My Pixel 6 issues (originally bluetooth, which now (mostly) finally works, but now overheating and a factory reset to fix background networking just dying) turned me off pretty hard. I ended up getting another Android tablet instead and it, thankfully, has mostly been great.

I'm still really on the fence about sticking with Google devices for my phone. It's even push me to consider going back to Apple, which I really don't want to do. I'd rather stick with Android, but I also don't want bloatwere and/or spyware (in addition to what using Google apps already gets me).

  • My wife and I are going to the US from Japan in roughly a month. Our first flight is something like 12 hours. Not going to be a fun one. I'm hoping her first time in the US and mine in 5 or 6 years isn't spent with corona. We're also visiting my elderly grandparents for what may be the last time, but I'd certainly rather not MAKE it the last time by bringing disease with.

  • I guess, technically, if I had had a kid at 18-20 and my kid had done the same, maybe it would be possible. Then again, a younger step-sibling is already a grandmother.

We were still supporting navigator and/or communicator when I was working in my first IT job doing tech support for a dial-up provider.

  • Historically, a lot of walking and eating home-cooked meals that were high in veggies and fermented foods and probably eating lots of seafood and seaweed with other proteins being less frequent.

Milk wasn't even a part of school lunches until after the war, so people still kicking from the pre-war times mostly grew up without it.

I suspect, though, that life expediencies here are going to drop. Lots of fried food and such these days and I see more and more obese people.
