  • We have long waits her, too, generally. It's also still quite expensive here. If you don't speak fluent japanese, also be prepared to spend a lot (my therapy was the same as my monthly rent, over 100k yen), but that's a non-issue for most people in Japan

  • and they have better access to healthcare than Americans,

Totally inaccurate for mental healthcare. No insurance covers psychology or counseling. Psychiatry is covered to a degree but is a check and pills which, alone, is not helpful in most cases.

  • If you're in a country where most people don't drive, don't expect this to work well. Japan seemingly has no system (though people in most of the country will probably move left most of the time). It definitely takes some adjusting to the chaos of everyone walking wherever the hell they want.

  • Can confirm. Started potatoes in a grow-bag last year, did another round this year. The bag doesn't hold a ton of soil, but it was apparently enough to turn 5 seed potatoes into a few kilos of harvest

  • First this, then refills are no longer free (which is how it works in most of the world already). I imagine automation will also come in there as well.

Margin on drinks is huge as they cost next to nothing.

  • I have Coeliac's and things with gluten are out for me unless I want a lot of misery for a couple of days (which sucks because I love bread). This cuts out a lot of things for me. I also typically do a very low-carb diet because, for whatever reason, it vastly improves my mood and how my body feels.

That said, I am moving to grow a lot more of my own food with plans to have my own chickens for eggs and eventually raising most of the meat my wife and I consume. The rest we plan on sourcing from local hunters (wild boar and overpopulated deer are big issues where we're moving) and farmers We also eat a lot of seafood, so probably less land-based meat than most already (definitely less than when I lived in the US).

  • Yeah, I get tons of random messages from people I don't know. A couple are recruiters who are finding my number on my CV, but most are just "hi sweety, do you have time to talk?" from random numbers all over the world.

  • No one I know is going to change to those. LINE also has other business stuff built in for interacting with companies (customer service for my massage place, my dentist, etc.) In an ideal world, sure, but it isn't going to happen.

  • I have a whatsapp because my dad wanted to be able to call me without international long distance fees. He's called once and I get endless amounts of spam. I'll be seeing him in a couple of weeks, and I can hopefully switch him to LINE (what everyone uses here) and get rid of this app for all and get the last cancer of Meta out of my personal life.
