  • American workers would need more.wages to buy more expensive American goods requiring higher wages... Or we see feudalism, scrip, slavery, or some.combination thereof. I don't think the factory is even the overall most expensive cost.

  • Someone tried to convince mid-20s me about bitcoin and he was having none of it. Probably would've squandered a ton of it back then, anyway, once it got over the hump of a pizza for 10k or 50k bitcoin or whatever it was and finally got some acceptance.

  • Actual answer: they would probably be surprised by how fat I am. I was underweight at that point in my life and now am over and generally less fit (multiple broken bones and surgery will do that). They would be surprised I had any interest in Japan, let alone have been living there for a decade. They would kinda get it though; 19-year-old me was still on the fence about very rural or very urban life. Turns out middle-aged me would get both in one country. Not really playing any music would surprise then-me as well, though it has been something I've slightly dipped my toe back into, though they'd probably like that I played for thousands a handful of times and have credits on a few albums. That I went into homesteading would also surprise him to some degree, coming out as some combination of my grandfather and, to a lesser extent, my uncle who fucked off.

Former post: To avoid this and probably be generally better, I'd explain the current situation and say to be more active in government and vote more, but I was working at times 2-3 jobs and surviving off of dollar store boxed mashed potatoes at one point and, I forget whether 19 or 20, living out of my car surviving on wonderbread factor outlet leavings and peanut butter in addition to what my restaurant job would give.

  • Yeah, different breeds for one, but meat birds are often only raised to a number of weeks in commercial ops (I want to say 6-8 depending upon the breed and other factors, but I'm not 100% on that).

Layers don't put on the weight like meatbirds nor in the same places. They also tend to have useful laying lives measured in years (I want to say 3 at peak production, but again I only know a tiny bit).

  • I'm just a hobbyist with like a single big project I'm maintaining but I'm starting to hate the code and idk maybe I should rewrite it in rust

I would argue that this, at least with any time limit is the worst place to start Rust or any new language. Your issues are likely going to be due to project structure, maintainability, and more rather than the language it's in. Adding Rust would just add a new layer of pain (say hello to my little borrow checker and lifetimes). You would probably be better served studying up on project structure, side effects, testing, and maintainability in general first and maybe trying to refactor yourself out of your hole one section/functionality at a time.

That said, I do like Rust (though I mostly do Go these days) and you can always go through the tutorials and cookbook to see what you think; worst case, you lose a couple hours of your life.

  • nitpick: not everyone who wanted to vote always can vote (republican-led states tried to greatly reduce polling stations, mail-in voting, etc. ahead of elections), but it probably doesn't move that number by a ton.

  • The only one country and citizen name used in Japan outside of very formal contexts is 'America' アメリカ. You will occasionally see 米 (bei = rice) used in some contexts, particularly with the kanji of another country as an abbreviation for things regarding those two countries (日米野球... Japanese-American baseball...). Finally, you have アメリカ合衆国 which is the formal name and used on paperwork and means something more like 'America peoples together country' somewhat literally, but stands in for the US of A. Technically, there's also 亜米利加 which is the old way to write it phonetically using kanji without really meaning something about the system of government or anything (it's just a me ri ka).

  • People on work, study, spouse, etc. as well as permanent residents and other long-term categories absolutely should in my opinion. I say this even though my ability to do that as a long-term (decade) resident of Japan doesn't fully exist. Tourists I'd say... probably but I don't see the usecase where one would want to go to a place just to protest in that place outside of some edge cases.

  • As someone who's bought games for the last 30+ years, the fact that, relative to inflation, they got cheaper surprised me (for physical games, in any case). For those physical games, one might think of it as a correction. Yeah, the number of buyers is up, but so are production costs. Now, is some of that greed with the top taking those profits? Absolutely and I hate it. Still, I'm surprised it took this long

  • Just to clarify, are you blaming women for not having sex with these men?

The solution involves good healthcare, education, social safety, and respect. Men with no jobs, no role models, entitlement (particularly to relationships and/or sex), no apparent future, and bad mental health support are a recipe for disaster.

I should know as I used to tick a number of those boxes. I think, had I been younger when YouTube and stuff came around, I'd have fallen prey to far right conspiricies
