  • Agree. I think a lot of tech just isn't directly visible to consumers in most cases. I'm specifically thinking of medical applications, robotics, manufacturing, etc. Some more visible applications would be transit (maglev trains are in trials now) and a number of similar things. There's also biotech stuff about which I know little.

  • I would assume not. The grids, except for Texas and some of Alasaka IIRC, are all fairly interconnected and share a lot. I'm assuming it comes in to some point over the border and enters the broader grid. Maybe it would be possible if it enters in multiple states to cut individual states off (which would still likely impact neighbors), but I don't know anything for sure.

  • If you read the Japanese internet, tons would say they're at least the latter two. I'm sure some might also argue the first as well.

edit: This is a weird one to downvote. People living in Japan, both foreign and Japanese, complain about the cops doing nothing in all kinds of circumstances and making mistakes in a variety of procedures. I've had a mixed bag of interactions, personally.

  • It's entirely dependent upon the responses of federal agencies and bodies, business interests, the response of average citizens, and foreign response. All but the last's responses have so far seemed fairly limp so, all other things being equal, I would expect it to continue or get worse.

  • I'm from the US and still have family there. There's zero chance I go unless someone is dying and, even then, I dare not bring my wife who speaks very little English. I'm glad we went before this shitstorm happened so she could at least meet my surviving grandparents once.

  • I used to just print at the convenience store closest to us, but that got to be a real pain buying a house, moving across Japan, renewing SoR (visa), applying for PR, starting my business, doing my taxes, etc. Printing was like 10 yen/page for black and white A4 I think.

  • I still don't see any settings to block PMs on the mbin side. I would at least like to filter to people I follow or something with the option to fully disable PMs.

FFS got another one after posting this.

  • Well, whatever that update was, I probably installed it (assuming it's the same here in Japan).

Use pen & paper – Do you really need a printer?

I had to laugh at this. At least in my use case, it's printing out forms and documents that various levels of government needs and I am absolutely not talented enough to reproduce them by hand (also, my handwriting is not fantastic).
