  • I would love to see more trade between Japan and Aus as well, especially if it reduces dependence on the US. I don't know where most of the aluminum and steel here (Japan) comes from off the top of my head.

  • I love living in a place that doesn't faff about with time changes. I hated it growing up. We could stand to shift an hour later, though, since I'm not a huge fan of sunrise sometime a bit after 4 in summer

  • Should there be an image or a link to one? I'm wondering if there's some kind of mbin compatibility issues with some posts (or some other shenanigans). Nothing jumps out in browser dev tools, but I've seen a lot of posts that are nothing but a non-clickable title for me. Thanks!

  • Not interested. Ohanian wants to moderate it with AI which is an absolute nope from me. I also have mbin and that's fine for me. I guess the edge case that might make me visit it would be the handful of reddit communities I still use for Japan tax/legal/biz/etc. that won't move to the fediverse decided to move there. I guess that's preferable to occasionally using reddit.

  • Not the person you asked, but a number of old videos were talking up PP and how Canada should be more like the US in varying ways (generally with regard to certain deregulation, privatization, etc.) with the caveats that: (a) I haven't seen his recent material and his positions may have changed and (b) I could be misremembering the finer details of being more like the US for the same reason of not having seen his videos in quite a while.

As for the accent, no idea. Does he love Canada? Maybe? Probably? Though his vision for what that and Canada look like may differ to others.

  • The flip side is that if the Dems shut it down, the republicans will use that as a scapegoat for all their failures and, truth be damned, their base will eat it up. It's not an enviable position.

  • People living in Japan nod in agreement. On the surface, the lack of public trashcans is an anti-terrorism measure in the wake of the sarin gas attacks and other domestic and international terrorism. In reality, it's probably also a cost-cutting measure for the fixtures and their maintenance.

  • I don't remember for the first one (almost 10 years ago). I think I interviewed at a few places. The second one, I interviewed at a number of places and got my current job. I live in Japan and applied for jobs in Japan and tried to also apply to jobs from the US that allowed remote (as I also have US citizenship). All of the US ones fell through (not surprising given timezones and other issues).

  • I ready mbin by all > active (I take the approach of banning magazines I am not interested in rather than being in a subscribed bubble) and the few Japan-related (tax/legal/resident) subredits that haven't moved here yet by newest (only subscribed communities there of which I have like 5). I watch videos from my subscribed list until there's nothing left (rare) so rarely use any kind of algo feed. I watch twitch only for people I follow. I don't use any other social media for now (I did just start a business, so that will change somewhat since I need to advertise and get engagement).
