  • I don't know what I'm supposed to do with people who can't just scroll up and read

  • which is why I'm asking for sources of it being used prior to reddit. I'm not arguing one way or another

  • so I made this post.

  • actually 87% of the Vietnamese population are covered by social health insurance (as of 2018)

  • calling it karma was so fucking smarmy

  • did you google it

  • I was digging into that. can you find it? the top results claim that it was just from Reddit putting a picture of a birthday cake next to your join date

  • I like the idea that the event is about honoring pastry, rather than measuring time

  • that honestly kind of chaps my ass. why not just call it "date joined"

  • I like the attitude but I never liked the term in the first place

  • just come up with an unpronounceable symbol to replace it

  • coprolites of the internet

  • I'm down with this.

  • we're going to need sub-names for people's alts as well

  • Lemabration day.

  • that's not generic, that's from Reddit as far as I can tell. "anniversary" would be generic

  • but I'll get that confused with the day that we celebrate the lunar excursion module from Apollo 11

  • explain the jarboa thing?

  • no, if you were a white middle class boomer born between 1945 & 1970ish who managed not to go to vietnam, you got to live the American dream. then we methodically voted for the people who stripped away all of the policies that made it possible

  • a cake has been used to represent celebration of birthdays or anniversaries for longer than we've been calling them cake days
