  • I'm actually continuously running github actions that I don't need running, just because I can, and because it uses up their resources.

That's something I really like about Ublue: they use Github actions, so if you build a custom image, you're using Github's processing power for it. So, go do that. Make hundreds. Bleed Microsoft dry.

  • Yeah, there was a period in time where people were discussing Helium-3 as a source of fuel that we could very easily and efficiently farm on the moon, which was seen as a key step in becoming a space-faring species. Okay, so we know where the fuel is and we can get there, so companies can start using Earth fuel to send helium-3 extraction machines, which can then be used to collect fuel for them to use in further missions and eventually, a small amount of helium-3 will be used to fuel a mission that returns with massive amounts of it, so we have a fuel, and now we can start exploring space even further, with people. It was the clear direction to take.

  • Safe to say I don't have a career as an artist, unless it's abstract art. Still, I was going for more of a penguin-like body intentionally. I didn't fail at the task, I just found an approach that requires a skill I haven't trained yet.

  • They have to kill it. Otherwise, some "cheapskate" might decide they don't need to pay for MS Word, or get spied on by having all their data in the cloud using MS Office Online.

Or they just think there's no reason to keep it around.

  • Similar issues here, but this time with steam i.e steam launches, the window appears, doesn't fully load and crashes or closes with no error messages (running it from terminal) and then it keeps on restarting and trying to launch again, always unsuccessfully. It's been happening for the last few days.

Now, Lutris suddenly requires umu and an update to the steam runtime to launch a game with Proton, so I can't play my games. Very annoying and weird.

  • Tech Self sufficiency? On the hardware level, it will take a while. In the software level, I don't think it will ever happen. Yes, the desktop and software suite they use, and the distro they're packaged in are Chinese, But....

the Linux Kernel, the GNU stuff, the systemd stuff, the Freedesktop specifications, Xorg if they still use it, wayland protocols and wlroots, are all developed by people from The West, so if they really want independence, I want to see them replicating all that work from millions of people across the last 30-40 years.

  • Maybe not related but I had an issie with wireplumber where it would suddenly take up any free CPU resources and use them up, jacking up my cpu usage up to crazy high numbers, often to 100% at times where the expected cpu usage would be at 20% at most.

I haven't experienced this in the last week or so, so maybe it was fixed in an update? I'm on Fedora, btw. I just wanted to share, so I can find out if anyone else had the same issue.

  • I need to send an email to Mozilla soon. The fact that I'm highly convinced that these three Linux youtubers would do a better job than the current management should tell you a lot about what's happening at Mozilla (yes, it's that bad).

  • If only. I'm a student living in student accommodation. I can't set up a NAS because hosting things on the network is against their policy, and I also wouldn't feel comfortable having that type of hardware in my room. And if electricity bills skyrocket because of me, I'll be forced to pay them.
