  • Because besides FDR, and maybe Lincoln, there is no other slightly decent president. Some people want to hold a memory, even a false one, a hope in darkness that maybe even the US might improve someday instead of continuing its 200+ year decay into feudalism with already worse inequality than at any other point in world history since the time of the pharaohs.

  • Sure for reported murders by victims families.

That's not the murder rate, that's not a measure of how safe things are. It's a measure of how often a victim has surviving family members that are willing to report the murder.

  • To your first point, yes. Some idiot twenty years ago said to a bunch of guidance counselors that software engineering would be a sure way to get money, so there's way too many in the US; on top of this companies don't want to pay even close to a living wage so they import H1Bs. Competition is ridiculous.

To your second point and exacerbating the first... Every company, practically, uses AI screening software, and before that just plain old applicant screening software. Your resume won't get seen by a human unless you're lucky enough to get through the layers of screening, so it's an arms race to guess what they're screening for and add that to your resume while not exaggerating too much so as to make the human after the screening process to not throw away your resume.

And at the end of this; especially in software but more and more in less specialized, less skilled positions, you have to still do 3+ interviews.

  • Casks are by far, like it's not even close, the most common storage method. SFPs aren't even long term storage options.

...and no, that's not what caused the radiation leak into the ocean at Fukushima.

You people actually make me sick sometimes. I'm sure the oil industry pays you well but Christ, someone needs to DDD your bosses so we don't have to deal with you anymore.

  • They're not independent, no country in earth recognizes them as such. China calls it an autonomous region like Tibet or Hong Kong, they're still fully subject to the mainlands laws, but they decide how to tax and what to do with taxes.

There is an independence party in their local Congress, but that's about it. If they use the weapons the US gifted China to declare independence, then yes China will 'invade,' the same way the FBI invaded sovereign citizen's homes in the US.

  • ... Which means it's not a Chinese company, bytedance is. It's like saying Activision-Blizzard is a Chinese company because a large part of their shareholders are Chinese companies.

That's now how business ownership works. Blindly repeating Trumps talking points makes you just look like a racist.

  • A) crime reporting is hit or miss, mostly miss. We really expect the people that can't tell the difference between a cell phone and a gun to tell the difference between murder, suicide, or just missing?

    B) this is very much like saying "the economy is doing great" to people struggling to pay bills. Their reality is different from the stats.

Now either there is a problem with how we compile stats, or the majority of people are just living in a fantasy world. In either case pointing to the stats does nothing whatsoever, except make people distrust authority.
