Basically yes. Theres no regulatory issue really. Theres just that companies refuse to loosen their steangehold on "intellectual property". Like that's the issue with basically all tech "innovations" they make things faster and more efficient for people with different goals than us. Well I mean we know China blocks a ton of info and publishing must pass state censors. And vpns etc aren't really allowed there. And Chinese corps have some brutal working conditions. I'm not saying there aren't things China has done right that we should look into but I don't see them as a shining example of the working man getting control over his own destiny.

Eh. Young people are always the most likely to be flakey pieces of shit at any job. It self filters out pretty quick.

Also, I work trades and I'll just say that from my point of view very few people are literate outside what they immediately need to navigate their lives. Like on bigger jobs we'll have a worker at random read out a section of corporate safety policy in the morning meeting and let's just say that literacy is a spectrum and most people are "functional" but do not read for pleasure or knowledge on their own time.

Heh here's one for people. In my province at least the best way to get cheap 24/7 fuel in every corner even the podunkest no stoplights villages is to get a free membership with the local fuel co-op (UFA here)

I regularly save 2-10 cents a litre and have 24/7 access and even shitters and showers in most locations all for no extra money or work on my end other than the initial sign up.

Windows 7 used to thunderfuck grub at random every few updates just to keep everyone on their toes.

I think people underestimate how much the physical state of your body, ie hormones brain structure etc play in how you make decisions.

When I was a lad I almost always knew I was making the wrong decisions but felt powerless in the moment to stop myself. I also had basically no concept of the future as a real thing that would happen and could be planned for until I was like 27 or so. Like the logical knowing things part of my brain knew the right moves but the doing things me rarely consulted with knowing things me.

I honestly think going back in time with all my memories is one of the worse hells I can imagine. Just doomed to watch myself fuck up in similar ways again and hope that it all works out "OK" this time too.

Oh I know, it's a whole conspiracy to make everything an appliance you can only use in specified ways rather than useful tools. But its honestly going to start coming back on thses companies in another decade or two when no one can work on their shit for them without extensive training. Course I bet well see the big companies just buy out and run their own corporate schools and make good useful school for your kids one of their benefits for working for them but I like to believe that public schools arent dead yet in my province.

Oh I know that China has lifted lots of people out of poverty and is generally popular with the population. But they engage in massive censorship among other issues and I just can't see how there can be a democracy (which I consider the most important component to make something socialist) with that degree of control. What I meant with China is it seems to me the state is the capitalists. The state has control over all the means of production in the country and I believe it uses it for its own benefit over the benefits and desires of the workers at those places.

I guess I'm just an anti-authoritarian first and my issue with capitalism has always been the authoritarian nature in which we parcel out resources and I can't see bringing up China or northkorea as examples of what I want. Though I do often have to push back against liberal narratives especially about Vietnam and Cuba and China.

But I'm not a Marxist though I do think he had some good ideas and was skilled at inspiring class consciousness. Ive always been more inspired by anarchist philosphy and go by Libertarian-socialist if forced to pick a name. I just think that we've seen now that a dictatorship of the proletariat doesn't go away and that you trade one state power for the other.

And don't use alone, pretty tricky to narcan yourself. Also gotta watch out lots of non-fentanyl tranqs getting mixed in with shit these days and narcan only works on opiods

It'll always be a problem for cracked software. But on Linux I find a good Free and open source alternative more readily than windows. I personally keep a good windows 10 VM around with snapshots for running software of dubious origins.

Its mainly the market share thing really. Using good default policies on windows or Linux would kill a lot of malware but typical Linux users still just copy paste shit into the command line and add random repositories etc anyways. And a program running with my privileges in my home directory would be 99% as bad as it running as root since my machines are really just me using them.

I think that the default should be that when something is deleted it should say deleted by "Admins of whatever" that way people at least know their view is being tampered with and could investigate if they're so inclined.

Now, generations are a made up social construct. And I think most people would find they have more in common with working class boomers than they do with the rich their own age.

That said society changes very fast now. There are big differences in how 17 year olds now and 17 year olds 50 years ago were raised and socialised. And age is more than just a number. We'll always discriminate against the young or the old in professional etc contexts because there's just some jobs that are more suited to the young or that we don't trust someone very young to have enough experience to do.
