  • I only mention them because they can bite, and it hurts. I got bit by one on the foot when it made a home in my shoe, and it felt like a wasp sting. Can't say I blame him, because if a giant foot smashed into my house, I might react the same. But normally if you leave them alone, they leave you alone.

As for the brown recluses, I can't say I've ever seen one, I just heard from an EMT that they are trained for those and black widow bites. I have seen black widows, but I've never personally known of anyone bitten by one.

  • We have black widows, brown recluse, and wolf spiders, but bites are extremely uncommon and actually less dangerous than advertised. Yes, you should see a doctor right away for at least the first two, but it's not worth killing all the house spiders to avoid them.

  • I moved into an apartment with my girlfriend (and her roommate) after being together only a year, and we're married now. We weren't much older than you are now (22 and 21). The concerning part is the rest of the family.

You've answered a lot of questions, so don't feel the need to respond to these, but you should know the answers for yourself.

Would you share a bed? Will you be able to hear her parents getting frisky? Because then they will be able to hear you. What if you have to take an epic shit, but her mom has just called everyone down to dinner? What if you go to take a shower and her father has clogged the drain with hair?

What is your alternative plan if you don't move in with them?

Sharing a roof means intimacy with everyone in the building. There's very little privacy, and escape is complicated. If you see her as a forever partner, and don't mind making yourself vulnerable to her family, then actually I probably still wouldn't do it even under those circumstances.

  • Would you eat them if they were called "Buffalo Nuggets"? Sounds like poop to me. "Buffalo Tenders" isn't much better, because it sounds like the nether regions of the buffalo. Chicken nuggets or chicken tenders are breaded and fried, because they are white meat and don't have the skin of a wing. Then they are coated in buffalo wing sauce. The benefit is you can eat them whole and there's no plate of gnawed bones leftover. You could even use a fork and keep your fingers clean.

Nick Adams seems to think that capitalists should eat with their hands and chew meat directly from the bones of an animal.

  • I'm not sure what you mean, but if you mean giving people cash, yes I agree. It's just far too small an amount to make a difference. People have a variety of needs, and while some might benefit from daycare, others would benefit from diapers, while still others could use a decent car seat. Cash is fungible, and people can spend it how they like.

We spend more on preventing fraud and administering social services than we would spend it we simply gave everyone money. A negative tax rate on a sliding scale would do the most good for everyone. Yes, some people would spend the money on drugs or alcohol or other addictive vices, but the effort to stop that costs more than just letting it happen. It's like we have a swat team at the Dollar Store to prevent shoplifting.

    But $5,000 is insultingly ineffective.

  • Screen glass tech has gotten better over time, so it could be availability heuristics because the last screen I remember replacing was for a Note 4. So that's how long it's been since I broke an actual screen. The protector on my phone is broken right now, and I don't know if the actual screen would have broken or not. But for like $10, why risk it?

  • I've replaced the screen protector at least twice on every phone I've owned in the last 15 years. They get scratched or chipped or cracked. Right now, I have a crack in the screen protector that happened when I dropped my phone, and it probably would have broken the screen if not for the protector.

Get the glass or rigid plastic protectors. They are easier to align and do a better job protecting the screen.

  • Hyperactivity is one of those nebulous pop-health terms that boomers fell for back in the 80s and 90s. It was used to market Ritalin and Adderall, both of which treat actual diseases, but became trendy drugs to "normalize" your unruly children. Sugar, artificial dyes, satan, skateboarding, Bart Simpson, and Nintendo were all blamed for disobedient crotch goblins acting out. They couldn't use the same violence their parents relied upon, because a bunch of bleeding heart (now known as "woke") scientists determined that abusing children is bad for them.

RFK never stopped believing the bullshit, even after is was thoroughly debunked.

  • This is not healthy husband/wife behavior. If you don't feel comfortable talking with him about your own freedom, then you don't have a husband, you have a captor. If you live in the US or EU, there are resources to help you escape with your son you mentioned in another comment.

The iPhone does not have a way to override this restriction.

  • I have many doubts about his guilt, but the rule of law is more important than any one crime. It is better for a guilty man to get a fair trial and go free than for an innocent man to be railroaded and unjustly punished. To me, it is obvious he has not received fair or just treatment under the law. It doesn't matter to me if he is guilty or not, he should go free because the prosecution has poisoned the well.
