  • First off, I’m not here to defend anyone. Biden and the Democrats should have been further left, and told our supposed ally to pound sand when they wanted bombs for Gaza. But they are an ally, and these deals came from Congress, so the democrats have basically zero say in what actually happens there because the republicans hold enough power there to make it so.

Secondly, don’t gaslight me. There’s plenty of news sites, it was pretty well covered, and I lived through it. I know what I read and saw. I don’t think it went far enough, and I’m pissed off it went the way it did, but it happened. A quick Google/bing/kagi search reveals plenty of results.

Thirdly, it doesn’t really matter. If you have the choice between “we’re going to let them bomb the shit out of them” and “were probably going to let them bomb the shit out of them” you don’t really get a choice on that front. You can NEVER truly be a single issue voter anyway in the US, so the fact that you choose who you didn’t means you liked the rest of Trump’s Project 2025 platform as well. You choose who’s more closely aligned with what you think is best and then you petition your congressional representative with your position. And I know we’re all looking forward to see just how far down economic security can go.

  • Cool thing is that Poverty isn’t just money:

Fundamentally, poverty is a denial of choices and opportunities, a violation of human dignity. It means lack of basic capacity to participate effectively in society. It means not having enough to feed and clothe a family, not having a school or clinic to go to, not having the land on which to grow one's food or a job to earn one's living, not having access to credit. It means insecurity, powerlessness and exclusion of individuals, households and communities. It means susceptibility to violence, and it often implies living in marginal or fragile environments, without access to clean water or sanitation.

There are plenty of other definitions, but they all revolve around these things: food, clothing, shelter, clean water and air, etc. All basic human needs.

  • Yeah, because Trump didn’t make it clear enough that he was going to hand over as many bombs as possible to speed the genocide up so he could build a hotel/resort there. What the hell did you think would happen with the “I’ll just buy stocks in defense contractors before I escalate a war” Republican party?

Gimme a break. I hate Biden but at least he was trying to talk Netanyahu down and setup a peace deal. Biden even held bombs back until the republicans threatened to impeach him. Do I think he should have stuck to his guns, absolutely, but it’s congress that makes those decisions, not the president. Either way, thanks for choosing the worst timeline, directly or indirectly it doesn’t matter at this point.

  • passengers will also be able to upload their passports to their phone and travel through airports using their face for verification. Instead of manually checking in, which would let airlines know who intends to board their flights, airlines will instead be alerted when passengers arrive at the airport and their face is scanned

They can’t even reliably scan a QR code, how can they pull that off with 100% accuracy?

  • I completely agree, but every week or two is too long. At one point we had ours running builds + automated regression testing => release twice or more a day. Along with automatic change logs and monitoring, It was so nice. Tiny updates are always better to test and know exactly what/where/how a failure or positive change occurs when the cadence is that fast. The devs loved it, the QA loved it, and as a DevOps, I loved it. We were even able to do AB testing and rolling updates.

It only got worse when management changed hands and some people decided on going agile in a “Scrum-but” method and it’s been a drag that sprints are 3 weeks long. Now releases take longer, have larger impact for better or worse, and regression testing is much more complex and I have to be more involved in releasing new code. The faster cadence meant it happened so often it was fully automated and I didn’t even know when most went out unless I was watching a dashboard.

  • Why? This is literally voting with your wallet, a cornerstone of Capitalism. If I look at my options and decide not to do either, I can do that as well. This is how the world works. Always has. Compare your options, make your choice.

  • It’s always a value proposition. If I feel like a game is a better value/ROI that whatever else I was going to spend my money on, I’ll still get the game.

Sure, I’ll have more limited number of purchases due to having a cap on discretionary spending, but if it costs more for all options, it’s different math that games being more than, say, a night out or a movie or whatever. I can easily say, I’d rather spend $45 for a few beers and dinner with friends than an $80 game, but if I get 100+ hrs of enjoyment out of a game and that dinner goes up to $80 as well, the game makes more sense. Or maybe having them over for some couch coop and we just get a sixer from the store instead.

Everyone will make this decision differently and that’s okay.

  • That’s the game cart size. The switch 2 comes with 256GB built in and is expandable.

That’s said, the Switch was also expandable. I put a 256GB card in and like 55+ games later (only 7 are digital though) I still have plenty of room. Switch/Switch 2 games aren’t nearly as big as Xbox or PS5 games are. I’ve not even cared about how much storage I’ve got free on my Switch in forever… where as my PS5 got a 2TB upgrade and I still have to keep an eye on it from time to time.

  • Oh the flip side, I have a Bazzite desktop rig running Proton/Steam for gaming and a PS5 and Switch. I’m not in the market for an Xbox and havent bought one since the OG… so I’ll just keep not buying their stuff I guess? I feel like boycotting things I’m not buying anyway doesn’t really send a message.

  • Honestly, if I were TikTok and saw this, I’d just shut off all US access to TikTok, make it clear the Tarrifs and Trump are the reason, and watch gleefully as a good % of the US that use it start revolting against Trump.

  • All the bills around here for natural gas are measured in CCF. “Hundred Cubic Feet” (centum cubic feet, but Latin is hard or something). I’d gladly take cubic meters instead. But then I quite like Metric.

  • To be fair, the last time I was there, the beer was cold and refreshing, the tits were adequately plump and on display, the waitress owning them was punctual and friendly, the order was accurate and the wings were pretty darn tasty.

But I’d much rather go to my local brewery or small restaurant down the street, support local and small business owners, and enjoy a smaller and cozier setting. There’s just so many other options, picking a chain like Hooters isn’t really something that happens often.

  • So far I’ve seen/heard Elon:

    • Start shitty arguments
    • Be a fascist
    • Fire people they probably needed
    • Cut funding or drop useful projects
    • Spew senseless, poorly thought out catch phases
    • Censor people that were right but didn’t align with his narrative
    • Take credit for other people’s work
    • Pass the blame for failures

Have yet to see him sign a check… it’s why they lost their boulder office, for instance.
