  • DNS based ad blockers (I run one, it’s great, highly recommend) can’t block something if the address is both legit and also serves ads. For instance, if MS used the same domain name for updates and windows key validation as it does for ads, you’d quickly run into an issue. Especially if (please don’t read this MS), they required validation on every boot, then replied with a payload combination of a the ads and a “yea you’re legit and can boot”.

  • I’ve got 4yrs on mine, I use them for meetings at work and regularly do 3hr meetings with them, probably averaging about 3 hrs a day, 5 days a week. They ran out for me the other day after a 3.5hr meeting, but luckily just one did, so I had it charge while I was using the other and made it through the 5hr outage call.

Not ideal, but the 4 other head sets (2 bt and two wired I got from the company) sounded terrible (either the microphone or the speaker or both) so they’re my go to pair.

I do wish you could swap the battery, but if I make It to 5 yrs it’d probably be fine considering how much I use them. I’d even be okay if they’d just make that a pro feature. At least give us the choice.

  • $70k is a lot of money for most people. I make a decent living and have been looking to replace mine and $30-50k can get A LOT of car. Even that is well outside the majority of people’s affordability.

  • I’m cycle 23 right now and I’m basically just trying to conquer the entire map. I’ve got floodgates setup so droughts and bad water doesn’t make any impact (other than the droughts stopping my waterwheels). Working on making huge reservoirs and such.

It is more sandbox like past 15, but i still find the bad water and droughts to be a little challenge. I’ll be interested to see if the devs add another mechanic to challenge our settlements after that point.

  • Maybe I’m above average here, but i feel like that’s already pretty obvious. AFAIK Israel is the only one currently genociding in Gaza. Now, if it WASNT Israel, that’d need the extra word.

You only get so many words in a title, news orgs tend to leave out the ones that don’t need more explanation.

  • Years ago (2006-ish), I ran Gentoo on a 300mhz ultra low power system I used for an irc & web server. I gained LOTS of speed and lowered power draw even further while also enabling the hardware acceleration the board had for ssl encryption and video encoding. The whole thing would pull <5 watts and be super stable. It was well worth it.

But now days a Pi zero would trounce it in both low power draw and speed with stock kernels and I don’t really care enough to try to squeeze more out.

  • I used to use Twitter as a way of directly following a few sources of news. Follow NPR, BBS, Reuters, Etc. I don’t know anyone who expected to learn of news from “the algorithm”. That’s still true today. Expect to get fed news from whatever is trending and you’ll be bamboozled, fed useless stories a day propaganda.

Some of these sources can instead be snagged from RSS feeds and Mastodon and besides official apps, those are much better ways to follow news and always have been.

  • Unable to serve an administration that enables such atrocities, I have decided to resign from my position at the Department of State.

I get putting your weight behind “fix this or I’m out”, but they’ll just find another “yes man” and you accomplished nothing but some press coverage for a small enough percentage of people and time to be insignificant.

To quote Hamilton lyrics: “You got skin in the game, you stay in the game. But you don’t get a win unless you play in the game.”

Change absolutely needs to occur, I just don’t think bouncing is going to get the desired goal.
