  • Interesting that you chose Reddit as an example. They have a fascinating origin story with respect to data mart. Early Reddit had just two tables: Thing and Data, where Thing was metadata about types and Data was a three column table with: type, id, and value.

Wrap your head around that. All of Reddit, two tables. A database couldn’t be less normalized (final boss of normal forms) and they did it in an rdb. So horrific it’s actually kind of cool.

  • I have all the time I ever did (little), but I use it differently. I’d rather take a walk in the mountains with my wife than play a game. In my mid-30’s I quit smoking, smoking, and playing games. Nothing against those things; I just wanted to use my time differently.

I read a ton more too, and find it far more enjoyable.

  • Well, yes they could tackle them. And in fact they could ask a sheriff to do anything. Sheriffs actually do have an obscene amount of power in many jurisdictions. But have this work out in their favor? Nah. Supremacy Clause and law of more firepower isn’t going to go well in that, I suspect.

  • Yes sort of. The UCMJ requires only that one obey “lawful” orders. However, what constitutes unlawful is like everything else in law, difficult to say rigorously. It is a risk for troops to disobey. A risk, nevertheless, worth taking in some cases.
