Like all other patterns, it can be done well or done poorly. I’ve experienced both with monorepos. The pain is greater when it is painful. But if the contribution, build, and release procedures are well designed and clearly documented it can also be nice.
I don’t mean to be arrogant. But I assume you realize US politics have implications worldwide. That is why many people in many countries take interest in it. Maybe it would be a good thing if US politics only affected the US, but that doesn’t seem to be the current situation.
Was playing with firework artillery shells once in the 90’s on a farm. One of the launch tubes fell over and my friends watched in horror as I had won this little “spin the bottle”. A large shell careened by my face within a few centimeters.

I think it is about both, candidly. Getting elected is priority one, but being able to effectively govern would be a pretty huge bonus, and that expectation is likely to influence voters.
