  • They have the choice to negotiate or not, but if they choose war and lose, then their lot is to reckon with the consequences of their actions. Vae victus, as the Gauls said to the Romans.

You sir, are an asshole. You have no moral high ground here and in the face of starving civilians, your beliefs, attitudes and viewpoint ring of hollow and despicable demagoguery. Your soap box is built of boards of blood and suffering and we can ALL see it, pooling around your feet. You're waving a sign that says "Good people of Earth, despise me, oppose me, ostracize me and disregard my words."

It's not OK. You have picked the wrong point of view and when you open your mouth or reach for your keyboard to dispense it, nothing will wash the resulting stench from you, because you're standing on top of this and there is NO WAY to make that a good look. No amount of reasonableness to put you on the right side or make you persuasive.

The side you support has already lost the moral debate and now it's just the practical matter of what can be done about it, given the geopolitical and cultural realities surrounding it. The world will never forgive you for standing where you stand. Someday, you may realize you need to forgive yourself and when that happens, MAYBE we can have a different conversation.

    Until then, farewell.

  • First OS was DOS. Then Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, then Debian when this happened.

  • Shrek! What's happening? I just wanted to make sure you know that we're putting the new cover sheets on the TPS reports now? Did you get that memo?

  • U.S.S. Making Shit Up by Voltaire, definitely my favorite.

I also once wrote a version of Short Skirt, Long Jacket about being in love with a Klingon woman.

I want a girl with a forehead like a washboard.

I want a girl who knows what's right.

I want a girl with blades that cut who's... not afraid to start a fight.

I want a girl with a strong sense of honor, who's fast and brave and hard as a rock.

She's playing with her cutlery, she's putting on her armor, she's got a Bird of Prey down in number 4 dock...

I want a girl with a short temper and a loooong memory.

Nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah nah Qapla' Nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah nah nah, Nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah nah nah Qapla' Nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah nah nah naaah.

I want a girl who fights with bravery.

I want a girl who bites my cheek.

I want a girl with unbridled ferocity, who uses a Bat'leth with stunning technique.

Disruptor pistols that that burn out justice, and a voice that is harsh like a good blood wine.

She's fast, and brave and hard as rock and she tosses Gem'hadar right out the air lock...

I want a girl with a short temper and a loooooong... long memory.

  • My parents were going to name me Heather, but then I was a boy.

When my son was born, I suggested the name Percy to his mother. She was like "Oh, I really really like that!" I was like "Good, then if we have another boy, we can name him Timothy, after your father." She was like "Aww, that's so sweet! I know you and my dad get along really well! I like that too! What if we have girls?"

I said "We'll name them Sage and Rosemary. Then we'll have Percy, Sage, Rosemary and Tim."

My son's name is NOT Percy.

  • My nephew (it was my own damn fault for leaving the equipment set up because I was halfway done with a project) siphoned 55 gallons of water from an aquarium I was building into the carpet.

And that's the story of how I learned to do flooring and replaced the carpet in my home office with linoleum so that the next time something like that happens it's non issue.

  • `import cv2

    cap = cv2.VideoCapture(0)

if not cap.isOpened(): print("Error: Could not open webcam.")

    for _ in range(3): print("Bloody Daisy")

    cap.release() cv2.destroyAllWindows()`

  • You might be on to something. I gave Stable Diffusion 1.5 this same prompt and now I'm scared to touch my computer.

  • Such hostility my child. I can only pray that the Prophets will help you find peace.

  • When you're in a Jaeger, you can fight the hurricane.

  • Because her papers are PDFs and "Adobe does PDFs." I was not part of this decision making process.

  • During the pandemic, I actually did a couple projects with old, broken phones for fun.

One was, I ran Kubernetes on them. Why? I was on lockdown and bored and lonely. Another was, my son and I experimented with using them as robot controllers, instead of RasPis. We sort of got this to work.

  • You want OpenWRT. They're not too limited, but they're not very powerful either. Fan controller? Probably. Pihole? You can probably hack that together, though I've never tried. Media server? Erm... not my first choice. Other stuff? Limited only by your imagination, time constraints and willingness to troubleshoot weird problems most people have never had before.

  • Across the board, we have let people who are primarily motivated by accumulating wealth and power accumulate wealth and power unchecked, and then make all the rules for how everything around them works.

These are the last people you want making the rules if you desire sane and sustainable social environments.

The best thing we could collectively do for ourselves is strip and block these kinds of people from positions of authority on the sheer basis that they seek it so eagerly, tell them to their faces WHY, tell them they can't have it back and that they can ONLY have it back when they stop wanting it so badly, no matter HOW HARD they cry about it and then treat them with the same kind of disdain they've treated people who don't want to play by THEIR rules for centuries.

  • If we put Elon Musk in a box along with a detector calibrated to detect the emission of a radio active particle, with a device that will cause Elon Musk to do science if it detects the particle and make up bullshit if it doesn't, does Elon Musk remain an arrogant asshole no matter what the particle does?

  • 10/10. Would watch.
