  • hell yeah, MVG is the MVP of the retro game scene on YT. Glad to see him here, and glad to see him shouting out ShadPS4, which y'all know i am excited about. Mostly because i want to play bloodborne enhanced on PC, but preservation of other games like Last Guardian is also so important.

  • It was not super clear at the outset that X was becoming a platform for fascists. We knew Musk was a shit heel capitalist, but this alone is not a reason to leave a platform. Most social media is run by selfish capitalists, it is simply the way of the world. It was becoming more apparent over the course of this year that Musk was playing with the algorithm to boost himself and people that paid him money, and we knew Musk was reinstating banned accounts in the name of "free speech". But it wasn't until election day (week?) when the platform explicitly endorsed Donald Trump that we knew the platform had been completely transformed into a pro-fascism platform. Remember that to most people, conservative and fascist don't mean the same thing. My personal opinion is that the modern conservative movement has completely shifted into fascism, and anyone who says they are conservative is endorsing fascism. But this is not how the majority sees things.

  • I've been picking fights on reddit about this. My feeling is that X has become a neo-nazi platform, and anyone who stays on there is implicitly endorsing fascism. The popular sentiment seems to be that, even if you accept this as true, it doesn't extend to music artists because they need to promote their music to make money. My personal feeling is that music artists do not get a pass. I don't care if you are trying to make money. Preventing fascism is more important than making money. There are many non-fascist platforms that you could promote your music on.

Am I off base with this? I mean, I hate corporations and capitalism and view them as the main evils of our modern world, yet I work for an evil corporation at my day job. I think I get a pass because I need to make money to live. Am I a hypocrite?

  • i love those things. don't use em so much these days, but the snap-on trigger extenders were ESSENTIAL on PS3.

  • wait you mean that isn't how you use a stick shift? i guess that explains why my truck was making all those weird noises....

  • i'm partial to campbell's myself. their tone is out of this world.

  • Tldw: fromsoftserve is a well known modder in the Dark Souls community. Shadps4 emulator is having some tremendous breakthroughs, and FSS reports that he has played through almost the entire game on the emulator. This video is not about the emulator progress, but instead is about how FSS is modding the game within the emulator to make the game even better looking than it was on PS4. 60fps, uprezzing, 2x upscale textures, and fully dynamic lighting are discussed in this video.

  • This was a recent post on her Facebook, I haven't seen anything recently that makes me dubious of her politics.

  • The coup is taking shape. It remains to be seen if Republican Congress members will roll over and let Trump steal their power, or if the Republican Supreme Court will uphold this constitutional violation. We all know that Republicans tend to start caring about things when it personally affects them, so tbh I kind of don't know what to expect with this one. I could see senators getting very concerned about their personal loss of power and pushing back on this, but I could also see them just following Trump's orders and hoping their loyalty pays off.

  • Luckily, decentralized social media is on the rise. Lemmy, while still comparatively small, has a fairly active user base; and while Mastodon has not (and likely will not) ever be mainstream, even Bluesky is technically decentralized as well (I think).

The paradox of modern social media. Twitter was only good because it was packed with normies, which gave a sense of being part of global conversations that included more than just your subset of weirdos. Bluesky is only becoming good because the normies are finally moving over. However, like Twitter, Bluesky is currently a centralized platform. The simplicitly of centralization is why the normies are there. It's also the reason why Bluesky is doomed to eventually end up like Twitter, unless Jay Graber and the other shareholders magically decide that the initial growth phase is enough and they don't need to grow anymore. But this is capitalism, and we all know how this ends up. Jack Dorsey may have had lofty goals for Bluesky, but he doesn't even work there anymore. The neverending demand for growth will push Bluesky to end up exactly like Twitter, perhaps even ending in another purchase by a billionaire fascist. It is inevitable.

At least Beehaw is cool and nonprofit.

  • thank u I was pretty proud of that one 🥲

  • Daddy Putin definitely approved this one personally.

  • This approach is so common in RPGs it's like dwarves with Scottish accents; a better question to ask would be whether there's an RPG that doesn't do it - one that hurries you up instead?

I mean...Dark Souls is the obvious answer, but that's almost a different subgenre of RPG. Dark Souls does have side quests, but they are obscure and often incidental to the main quest. They also skirt this problem by having "time" be a loose concept in the lore - in every game, the world is in the process of slowly ending, in a literal way that fucks up the flow of time.

  • In fact one of my favorite RPG has the player characters being the ones trying to end the world as they know it.

    Which one would that be?

  • Time sensitive but you can start the time line over at any point?

  • Well I read your whole post and the linked politico. Sounds like the first round is done. How you feeling about the election at this point?

  • that's what i'm saying! I hope the quests are more dense with writing in the final release. Well-designed quests with clever writing are the entire appeal of an Obsidian RPG!

  • they are so obsessed with finding out what's in your pants, they will make a law to force you to tell them. But what else can you expect from the party represented by rapists and child abusers...

  • Must be nice to be rich and just flee your community when things get tough.
