I'm gonna have to nuance that: while palm oil is an environmental disaster, it is in fact the most efficient vegetable oil in terms of land area per ton of finished product. This is because the the plant that produces it is incredibly productive, more than sunflowers or rapeseed.

So changing to other vegetable oils would result in more land area being cultivated overall.

Any statement that boils down to "this extractive industry is environmentally sustainable" is massively suspicious. I don't trust that statement at all. I don't buy that you can produce palm oil on that scale while respecting nature.

I have all of the Billboard Top 100's for every year from 1950 to 2009. When i downloaded it i thought that litterally every popular song i've heard of would be on there.

Not only are there a lot missing, there's so so much crap. It turns out bland generic love ballads have sold really well throughout the decades, and genuinely memorable songs are a lot fewer than 100 a year. Not even to mention all the ones that don't chart. Sure 1957 had Elvis's Jailhouse Rock, but you know what else it had? Elvis's Loving You, Elvis's Love Me, and Jerry Lewis's "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody". Cool. Thanks for that, Billboard.

Overall there's a tremendous survivorhip bias. By definition we only remember the memorable songs, which gives the illusion that everything was memorable.

But also, having grown up in the 2000's, i really think it's one of the worst decades for music. So much so that i was into 60's rock back then, and in the 2010's i was into the new wave of thrash metal, literally one of the most regressive genres there are. I wasn't alive for the 80's, i didn't like the video games or the movies and didn't participate in virtually any of the 80's nostalgia that was trendy at the time, but i did prefer the music to anything my current decade had to offer.

Same reason there's no fascist party: the two main parties contain a broader range of the political spectrum than in most countries.

From there the question is does the moderate or radical wing of the party gain more influence. The far-right has won the Republican party years ago while progressives still haven't gained that much ground in the Democratic party.

That really depends which part of the internet you're in, which politics you're more sensitive to, and which point of view you're observing them from. If you're in leftist communities they tend to be a lot nicer on the inside.

I've recently plugged and unplugged a lot of monitors, and the way DP keeps itself attached it with those little claws, and you have to push a button to release it. But when there's 4 monitors plugged into the same GPU, you can't access those buttons. The struggle was real.

Also streamers were a lot more influential on place 22 and 23 than they were in 17. Streamers are external to the website, don't particularly have a dog in the race other than themselves, are encouraged to create spectacle, and the kind of personality that makes you a big streamer is not conducive to being a good neighbor in a competitive pixel art game. So while i hesitate to say that there was anything about Reddit in particular that made Place 2017 a good event, i do think the presence of streamers made 22 and 23 much worse.

I don't remember them very well but i'm pretty sure i've had 4 hour nights for the entire duration. For place 2023 i spent most of my waking time in Discord calls.

And all this for a game that can be emotionally devastating. Getting overrun by a streamer feels shockingly similar to having big kids trample your sand castle, it's this little thing that you built together getting destroyed by stronger people and they're mocking you relentlessly.

This is a thing that annoys me and it's not just Microsoft doing this: there's never a "No" button, it's always "Not now" or "Maybe later". As if i'm going to reconsider. As if it's an honest offer worth thinking about and not a pop-up.
