  • That's weird. The bluesky links in the article work fine for me, and I don't have a bluesky account.

Ahh hang on, this one doesn't work but all the rest do

Ahh here we go: it's a user made setting not a bluesky one

  • Well said that man ! I certainly agree with all your points and have said similar things but reading between the lines I suspect I was a little less, umm, forceful about it 😁 I've been banned from a few subreddits but not an outright ban yet

Yeah, those dirty snowflakes can't stand it when someone talks about them the way they talk about everyone else.

    Absolutely true

  • That's not actually correct. The missiles (the rocket part) are indeed leased from the US, and the maintenance every few years is thus done by them - which keeps the cost down. The warheads are the UKs.

A freshly serviced trident missile should be good for 5-7 years (although they currently get serviced more frequently).

If the UK falls out with the US then we have a number of years to either build our own replacement missile to put the warheads on or buy/lease a missile body off another country - France for example has several options in this space that could be easily adapted.

We are where we are because nobody could imagine the US going rogue like this, a failure of imagination for sure but our nukes are in fact in our control

    Edit, tidied up the wording

  • Surprisingly I didnt get banned (I have a similar post history), what did you do ? Any idea ?

  • Oh come on ! China has an authoritarian govt. Of course it can immediately respond. The EU is an alliance of 27 countries, it takes time to agree a mutual response, which everyone has to agree to, particularly when you have Putain's trojan horse in the middle of it disrupting everything.

  • No but it's the first step. As momentum builds more people are emboldened to protest, and the scope of the protests widen and get more effective.

This sort of statement is typically made by people who want to stall and prevent action. You see it all the time in various forums: "if this activity doesn't 100% fix everything immediately then there is no point in doing anything".

Unfortunately we don't live in a black and white world where a switch can be flipped from awful to wonderful (as if it was even possible for everyone to agree on that). You get there in small incremental steps with messy interactions and disagreements along the way.

Protests like this can lead to ongoing effective resistance like strikes, work to rules and etc. But you don't get someone to go from never having protested in their lives to manning a blockade of a govt building in one step.

  • Rightsholders in the EU will lobby against this like rabid dogs. While it would benefit the consumer it would expose their revenue models to the cold calculation of whether the current intellectual is actually worth it on balnce. (Spoiler alert it almost certainly isn't)

  • Refusing to levy the federal tariff and daring Trump to do something about it as the only way this could work I could think of too. That could go pear shaped very fast

  • I think you have comprehensively missed the point of this post.

This post: "people under threat here's some things you can do to lower your profile, mitigate risk a little" (positive actions)

Your comment (initial & reply): " how did the US let this happen & why didn't you fight it, why aren't you fighting it now"

That assumes a) the people most under threat are the same people who should be/can be fighting it b) that they didnt before the election and c) that the actions you prescribe will be effective.

So. Are your assumptions valid and do they actually add anything by voicing them ?

I know many in the US queer community worked tirelessly to prevent Trump being elected (assumption b) but now they really do need to get as low profile as possible, because there is a pogrom coming. Straight white people can afford to protest, the numbers are there. Minorities in small numbers not so much. Easy pickings.

  • I'm increasingly annoyed at all these posts going "here's how to lock down your comms from all the people coming after you for all the protesting you're not doing.

People aren't going to be coming after LGBTQ+ people "for the protesting" they are or are not doing.

They'll be coming for them because they're queer.

If you've even been paying a little bit of attention the magats have made it clear the two main minorities in their sights for the first round are immigrants and trans ppl.

They've already sent a US citizen to an El Salvadorian camp and shrugged and said sorry, can't reverse that now.

If you think the rest of the queer minority are not in their sights you're kidding yourself (and us)

    Check your privilege.

  • Move to the bluest city & state you can get a job in. Then hunker down and either save hard or start studying something that will allow you to emigrate (medical&IT security are always on the list), or something that can be done fully remotely. You're a lot safer from a camp in a place where there are 100s of thousands of minorities. Not safe forever but it buys you time.

If you can get a job that can be done remotely you can get out to asia or south america asap.

  • "Trump will never implement Project 2025, he's just saying that stuff to rile people up"

How's that working out then ?

If pp says they'll cut funding to Cbc believe him.

  • So you think the crazy monkeys will react less viciously then they did back when they were just sane but nasty ?

    Press X to doubt

  • Last time we thought about taking Pine Gap back the CIA installed a new PM...might want to tread carefully there. The US has always taken a dim view of their vassals thinking for themselves

  • 2 of those def do port forwarding (airvpn & proton) dunno about the other 2

  • globally. They got nothing at all to worry about

What's that supposed to mean ? You think we're not pissed off at the Tangerine Palpatine and Poundshop Goebbels in Europe ? Or do you think Europeans don't protest ?

If it's the latter I suggest a little googling try "French protest gilet jaunes" for a starter. Or you could just google the protest Tesla has already been experiencing for the last month

  • You won't need over the horizon radar to see the yanks coming from the south, you'll hear the whining about TDS from miles away.
