  • I have the gamesir, and I like it a lot. My one complaint though is that the USB-C is just too long to be "right" when I don't have a case on my phone, but just too short to work with a case on my phone. I really wish there was a way to adjust the depth of the plug. :/

Other than that, great little device!

  • I know how to build a barn. Doesn't mean I can do it by myself with no tools or materials.

Turns out that building and operating a lab that can churn out bespoke pathogens is actually even more difficult and expensive than that.

  • Was intrigued by "no other symbols" than open and close bracket. Was curious how that would work while still being intuitive, so I looked at the examples. I'm now confused what you could have meant by that.

Just glancing through the example code I saw +,-,>,<,=, and ;. Like, at that point you've pretty much covered all the standard symbols. What "no other symbols" are there? Curly braces and pound signs?

And I'm not sure how beginner friendly this actually is, looking over the examples. Like, I feel like python is currently the "low bar beginner language" that you're competing in that space with, and I don't see what this is offering over that in terms of easiness.

Sure, python has more "functions you need to learn" I suppose, but if the answer to that is, "you don't have to learn them in kcats because they don't exist and you have to implement them yourself," it seems like a detriment rather than a boon...

  • To be fair, can you think of anything that would qualify as "one great thing" that doesn't fall under the purview of "doing their job"?

Like, I don't think the expectation is that he would have run into a burning building to save some starving orphans?

  • A few off the top of my head:

    • The Reckoners series by Sanderson (organized evil superheros, completed series)
    • scholomance series by novik (magic school, unfinished)
    • The Kingkiller Chronicle by Rothfuss (magic school, unfinished and probably never will be, but excellent)
    • Scythe by Shusterman (guild of death kind of thing. More scifi, but has the vibe I think you're going for.)
    • Rangers Apprentice series by Flanagan (no magic, but guild of rangers with bows. Similar vibe to some of what you listed as well.)
  • I don't know that I understand the "under capitalism" distinction here.

Like, I get that the point is that capital is influential, skewing the vote in favor of those who have it.

I just think that even in non-capitalistic systems there will invariably be some other proxy token for power that will be equally influential.

I don't think the problem outlined is one that is fixed under any system.

  • What's wild is I once purchased a few dozen of those rj45 to serial connectors for a real, on the job project.

They come as a kit thing you have to assemble. That's why it shows them in two pieces in the image above.

They worked, so like, if it's stupid and it works it's not stupid I guess?

  • In addition to the stuff everyone else is saying, most modern bulbs don't have a vacuum at all.

Most modern bulbs are filled with an inert gas like argon or xenon. Usually at a lower pressure (around 70% of standard atmospheric pressure), but nowhere near a vacuum.

This has, while inert to chemical reaction, is more than capable of transferring heat.
