  • Like water on a goose - Swedish

Just thought of one that takes a bit of explanation. In Swedish, much like German, words are joined to create longer words. Such as smörgåsbord(sandwich table). The smurfs in Swedish are therefore called gammelsmurfen (old smurf), "anything"smurfen. Because of this, people jokingly say "intressesmurfen antecknar" ( interest smurf is taking notes) to indicate that they don't care about what somebody is saying

  • I'm not calling anybody anything. You misunderstand my point. Being rude is different from differentiating from the technical categorization of words. They are both. Neuro divergent is a category of mental illness.

I wouldn't call anybody mentally ill, cause it is too simplistic and rude. But it still is what the word means.

  • So what is a condition if not an illness? Can you have a beneficial medical condition? Maybe it's because English is my second language, but this is part of the confusion.

Well, technically they are. It's a detrimental neurological condition. It doesn't to my knowledge benefit a person to have untreated ADHD. Or as they say, a untreated mental illnessl. I don't much care for the padding of language, rather I would remove the stigma by using the term without judgement.

I think i'm seeing it as a classification tree, i could see Illness branching off to mental illness and then there would be an immense amount of mental illnesses. Somewhere there neuro divergence would be and perhaps ADHD under there.

  • Did you though? You called me an asshole for asking a pretty non-judgemental, open ended question about the headspace of the person in question. I wrote nothing in there that i wouldn't say to their face if they said what they said in the comment. You talk to me in a demeaning manor, which i didn't do.

  • No offense taken. Trying to bring some sanity is all. I still haven't received an honest answer to the question, so i guess it struck a bit to close to home.

Pretty hilarious that you try to paint me as sensitive, when you're the one getting upset on someone else behalf. 🙃

  • Macho culture existed long before the loneliness. It's a different kind of macho culture now that is detrimental.

Previous generations had less destructive outlets for machismo than boys of today. Being part of a sports team meant that you had an outlet and a group that you shared common goals with.

  • The word literally derives from feminine

feminine adjective (WOMEN) Showing qualities that people generally think are typical of women

There is an opposite term to feminism, masculinism, which then leads to the idea that it can't be completely equal. But i assume people will keep using the term to mean "equal rights for all", since thats usually how it goes with languages.

I just worry that the implication is changing so that women = equality and men = inequality. That train of thought is mainly what drives younger men to go off the wall with their chauvinistic tendencies.

  • I think the ideology you think of when you say it's for everyone, is egalitarianism. Feminism can't be for everyone in the same way that patriarchy can't mean "womens oppression of men".

Unless of course, you're looking to confuse with the terminology.

  • Not really. People get paid for being the best at something. Thats not the same as, for example, watching people play poker, where the only objective is winning money. E-sports has the same money issue where someones excellence at a game is sullied by the fact that most of the competitions are measured by their prices pool. As if being the best at something isn't enough anymore.

  • Well, reddit turned to shit around 2014, so the fact it still sucked around 2017 can't be a surprise?

People definitely care, but not about which side of the family or if it comes from mommy or daddy. Most people just want an "original" name.
