  • Any mild acid should do. Would suggest trying undiluted white vinegar or lemon juice if it’s particularly built up. If it’s not too bad then mix one or the other into some water.

  • They wish they could be our western island.

  • Yeah I rewatched part one on Saturday because I couldn’t remember where it finished. What surprised me was how early in the story it wrapped up.

I think because I’ve read the book so many times I’d created false memories of scenes that I thought where in part one but weren’t (e.g. Jamis’ water weighing ceremony). Doesn’t help that there’s the flash forward clairvoyance scenes jumbled in there as well. However, where those false memory scenes were included in part 2 they were much better than what I had imagined.

  • Copying a comment I made in one of the movie communities last night:

Saw Dune Part 2 in a sold out imax screening.

Just wow. One of the few movies that lived up to the hype and visually it is one of the most stunning films I have ever seen. The whole scene on Giedi Prime is otherworldly and sets the Harkonnens up as a malevolent force that is the complete opposite of the Atreides we see in the first film.

Only complaint is that while the first part was 99% faithful to the book, part two drops to about 90% and also cuts out what I think are pivotal scenes in the book. Still it was never going to be easy to choose what to drop without turning it into a 4 hour movie and overall it all works incredibly well.

  • Sounds like you need to change the time you do the workout.

  • viewed 13 open homes over the weekend and then had to be up at 4am to fly to Welly. I’m exhausted and the days not even finished yet, let alone the week.

  • Same. Unlike Reddit there’s not too much content to stay on top of it. It’s nice.

  • That’s what I’ve literally just traded up to from a Pi. Prodesk 600 G3 comes standard with a 6 core i5 8500, has 4 full size ram slots, an m2 ssd slot and has a mount for 3.5” hdd, all drawing only 65w.

There’s a low profile one as well but then you’re stuck with sodimm, no space for a full size hdd and no pci-e slots.

I picked it up second hand for NZD 100 so I imagine it would be even cheaper in the states.

  • Damn, just read the Forest & Bird article about them. They really are predatory.

Well this one was in the middle of a carpark on Great South Road so it probably has a low life expectancy.

  • Found a hedgehog snuffling around the bushes at work during lunchtime. Very weird as I could have sworn they’re nocturnal.

  • Still waiting to see evidence that Iraq had WMDs as well. Any day now…

  • Fully agree that the CV doesn’t mean anything but a lot of people seem to cling to it. We know our place isn’t that great, was ok as a first home and that’s probably who it’ll go to assuming we get any offers.

We somehow managed to pick our place up at auction but it was a nightmare as we had to try and coordinate the KiwiSaver first home withdrawal and the home start grant from housing nz. We’re pretty much skipping anything that’s advertised for auction as you can burn through cash quickly trying to get building reports and valuations only to miss out on the day.

  • That’s the dream but probably not reality. We’ve noticed a lot of places being relisted after their auction dates so assume there’s a high volume being passed in.

Hopefully we’re a bit more realistic. The council was smoking something when they did the last RV and our minimum is about 25% lower than the valuation.

  • House went on the market this week and had first open home today. Really not looking forward to spending every Saturday and Sunday morning cleaning/tidying and then being out all day at open homes.

  • They bought the kiwi bacon building on new north road which on its own was $33m. Not sure what other parcels they purchased but none of the corridor is what I would call cheap.

  • Most of it will be design costs and early land purchases. Design is about 10-20% of construction costs which on a multi-billion dollar project adds up pretty quickly.

  • Ehh have to disagree on it being terrible scrapping the project. Light metro was an over-engineered solution to avoid disrupting general traffic on Dominion Rd and not having to figure out what to do with Fanshaw St.

Had AT been allowed to get on with their surface running proposal from 2017, rather than having Labour give it Waka Kotahi in 2018 to relitigate, we would have at least had something to Mt Roskill by now.

  • Missed my morning scroll. Made me realise how little there is to actually read in the stuff and nzherald apps.

Thanks for your hard work Dave.
