  • Sucks for the US, but also for all the other countries dependent on the US for passive protection. Russia and China are going to do whatever they want now. North Korea might even get a chance to see some action. Historically, the US has made an effort to keep an eye on our enemies from the borders of our allies. Trump legitimately believes the only enemies that exist are within our borders.

  • It's still small, so the whole platform still feels like one of the larger reddit subs. The same people show up everywhere, and if you want to create a niche community, you'll go months without seeing any posts.

  • FWIW, this breaks from the Two Santas Strategy. This Santa is suppose to be funding things conservatives want, while at the same time reducing taxes (on the rich), thereby driving the deficit up without making their voters mad. If you actually cut funding for a bunch of stuff people rely on, you will earn the ire of the voters, that's why no one ever does it.

Yeah, there will be a core of people who will defend Trump and Musk to their self-inflicted death, but those people are in the minority. Most Americans (and most people in the world) voted against the incumbent this year because they were unfortunately there during a time of inevitable inflation. And they'll do it again if their lives continue to get materially worse over the next few years.

I can't help but wonder how we would be sitting right now if Trump had won in 2020. But we're due for a generational crisis, and I don't think that wouldn't have been nearly as exciting.

  • What you're advocating is vigilantism. In a working society, if they are committing acts of violence (aka crime), you shouldn't need to advocate "overwhelming violence" in response, you should be advocating a working police force who can arrest them, and hold them safely until they can be judged by a jury of their peers.

I feel like vigilantism is the left making an equivalent argument to the right's "more guns = more safety". Unless you live in a lawless warzone, you shouldn't want either.

  • I'm convinced a good number of these accounts are divisiveness bots, running a psyop to intentionally stoke the flames in left-leaning forums the same way they continue to do on the right. I assume at least one will respond to this calling me a nazi sympathizer. It's happened before for much less.

I don't know what to do about this, because I also acknowledge that there are actual anti-fascist protesters being pulled into the narrative.

I'm as anti-fascist as they come, but (in addition to your points about winning people over) I also believe in preserving free speech, and acknowledge that there is a very fine line here. It's free speech to wave a flag with a symbol on it, it's free speech to say you think that flag represents hate speech and shouldn't be allowed, but it's hate speech to openly endorse genocide, and vigilante justice subverts the point of a justice system. If our justice system falls apart.....we're screwed.

  • Let's Encrypt is good practice, but IMO if you're just serving the same static webpage to all users, it doesn't really matter.

Given that it's a tiny raspi, I'd recommend reducing the overhead that WordPress brings and just statically serve a directory with your site. Whether that means using wp static site options, or moving away from wp entirely is up to you.

The worst case scenario would be someone finding a vulnerability in the services that are publicly exposed (Apache), getting persistence on the device, and using that to pivot to other devices on your network. If possible, you may consider putting it in a routing DMZ. Make sure that the pi can only see the internet and whatever device you plan to maintain it with. That way even if someone somehow owns it completely, they won't be able to find any other devices to hack.

  • As though no one has ever considered the cost to our deficit and impact to our economy that doing this will have. Between this and the tariffs, it would be funny how fast Trump is going to drive the country into the ground, if it weren't so devastatingly sad.

  • Ahh, yeah, I think I didn't quite follow OP's request. The part they don't remember is the time between where they traveled to in the past and their "present", and the story is about them intuiting what happened in there.

From the title it sounded like the protagonist was suffering amnesia-like symptoms about how the world used to be along with everyone else.

  • So the premise is: they travel back in time, change their future, travel back to the present, forget everything they did while time traveling, and now have to just experience their new future without knowing anything changed? Do I have a that right?

I mean, how do you know this isn't the backstory for every character in every story ever? How do you know you didn't JUST do this yourself?
