  • You just said Zelensky was wrong about Europe being unable to compensate for US military aid. Without wading into the industrial capacity issue (which European nationalist redditors refuse to acknowledge), can you explain why is he saying this? Why is the Washington Post saying it?

Moreover, why is the US unwilling to make these deliveries? Even when pulling out of Vietnam, the US wasn't running out of weapons like this, it was restructuring the financial system to pay for the war, and unable to match the tenacity of the proud Vietnamese people. What's going on? Where did all of the Patriot missiles go? Did they fall into the couch cushions?

While we've got you on the line, how many Patriot missiles does the US produce a year?

You didn't think we were joking about all this the past few years, did you?

  • Lemmy.ml should abide by Brazilian laws because otherwise they'll get blocked in that country. I'm not much of a free speech fanatic. Ideally if people post a bunch of Nazi shit then Brazilian ISPs will be legally obliged to block it. The socdems in Brazil are rather lame so I have little faith in all of the "dark humor" Fb and Telegram groups getting nuked.

I'm not a lawyer, but, if you understand this isn't even a new law and it's just the end of impunity for US companies I don't see why you would frame this as an imminent threat to free speech. That's why I doubted you read.

  • Quit pulling stuff out of your ass, I've been trying to explain this to you because I find the subject engaging. Unc I spoke to you for the same reason I speak to hobos, we're all human beings, but you were already testing my patience, this is ridiculous. I'm still not convinced you read the article. I'm saying other websites in Brazil have to follow the law, US social media companies have been ignoring it, while enforcing their own code of conduct modeled after US definition of "disinformation" and internet laws. The supreme court of Brazil is enforcing the preexisting laws on them. It seems like you are not grasping the basic details to me or you're just a lunatic

  • How to say Marx was right without saying "Marx was right".

Hard disagree, this is a liberal doing the usual thing. As John Bellamy Foster elaborates on in his articles and books, the fight against climate change isn't lost, it's been abandoned by the ruling class of imperial core countries. Look up some of his stuff on Monthly Review the ecological rift is a very important concept that never appears in the kind of discourse you're posting

  • No it's not, also there is at least one Brazilian Lemmy instance, stop crying in my mentions because someone made Facebook and Twitter follow laws which ALREADY APPLIED TO EVERYONE ELSE. Replying to me will not bring your wife back or whatever this is.

  • Yes, the person hosting a website has to abide by the laws of countries they want to avoid being blocked in. This is common sense unless you're Mark Zuckerberg. No human rights for zillionaires, sorry chuddy

  • Ah you're still jerking off to those protestors burning people alive are you? Reddit during the heyday of the Hong Kong riots was probably your gig

  • Why do you keep talking about polls which I did not mention? Did South Korea and Japan get polled after the tariff debacle began, or was there an irreversible breaking of trust with the ruling class of the country that has done everything it can to maintain its position? I'm talking about the cultural and economic crosslinking that is taking place which is breaking the Pacific away from the US

  • Not cutting out the US doesn't matter if it has nothing to offer other than Nancy Pelosi lol. I'll have to look into polling more later but it's not the whole basis of what I'm talking about, rather the lack of hostilities and the economic crosslinking with the mainland. There's a reason the US is frantic to push for a war it can't have, they can't provide any alternative system long-term even if they're included

  • The Euros on here are crazy, over on dbzero Germans are trying to convince me that it was good for their green revolution to destroy their nuclear power, destroy their largest source of fossil fuels, and that evil Russians destroyed their green industrial capacity and made them sanction China's green industry

  • Here I'll ping you when I pull it up and make a full post about it, I really only do nude links through the share button and arguing on my phone lol. Polls are funny it really depends on what questions you ask people, and who you ask

Think of it this way, who in Taiwan is ready to go without the mainland economy? Who is ready for war? Who believes the US will be more reliable in the future? Would be better to support it with data but I am lazy. Those who want to maintain a separate system for Taiwan see the mainland as a better partner than the US, and long term hardliners' fears of reunification will be realized in the political situation that develops out of the new Pacific centered around China rather than the US, as finance adjusts to recognize it

  • Well most of Taiwan is ready to unify, it's mostly the ruling class propped up by the US opposed to it. With the issues they have created for Taiwanese semiconductor companies there are probably even former loyalists ready to turn tail and run.

It's really the US - which can only dream of a war across the Pacific now - which wants a military confrontation. Mainland China will become too lucrative for Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea to ignore the more the US financial stranglehold starts to slip & China develops. Peaceful reunification is inevitable and war is merely possible now

  • No it's not! I hope you can see that uninhibited unlawful access by multinational media & telecom companies is exactly what leads to the establishment of comprador figures like Bolsonaro, who dislike Telesur's politics.

I'm actually glad you've raised this, as it helps me develop my thoughts on social libertarian left tech activism & its limitations. One of its dubious accomplishments is watering down the wrongs done by the US & allied governments with pop social science into generic anti-authoritarian rhetoric, and opposing actions by neo-colonized countries which limit foreign soft power + capital

  • I'm the one spinning fairy tales?? You're telling me that these companies aren't already blocking people in accordance with their own policies shaped by those very organizations? I just think there is a misunderstanding here, because Bolsonaro would never do anything like this but you're reframing it as a win for him.

I sure hope nobody thinks of Brazil as a magic kingdom where only good things happening. For the govt there to actually grow a backbone and limit the influence of the orgs that are encouraging their petit boug to be little pro-US Evangelical nightmare beings would ve fantastic. The dominance of US tech & media is very very bad and other countries need actual sovereignty (like enforcing their laws on multinational companies and not legalizing their activities - at a bare minimum, as relying on them at all is a result of being deliberately underdeveloped)

These companies are very entwined with US state power it's imperialism and the privatization of the state that is an issue not third world sovereignty itself

  • Telesur is not going to get censored by Brazilian law lmao, if platforms did that it would be a reprisal for being made to follow Brazilian law.

There is no good argument for the US oligarchy to get final say over the govts of the countries using their services, but this is even crazier to say when US platforms are littered with mysteriously unmoderated Nazi content. Get real?

  • Neocons when they remember they're already liberals too

  • Did you read the article? Be honest with me. Because nobody who attentively read the article would think this is a new censorship regime, rather than foreign tech monopolies being asked to follow the law. You're siding with Elon Musk now?

  • What in tarnation is this something related to Bill Kristol
