  • I think you helped me crack it, i think it's saying that the person who looks like you but puts in more effort to their appearance on the regular is more attractive. That makes sense to me, and would be true in the main for most people, it's one of the most common things said to people who are struggling to find partners.

You could take negative connotations from that about that person being vain but really it should be on the cheater for being a fucking cheater.

  • Some of it is also that Max has had years driving the car that has a similar philosophy as they are evolutions of that Newey concept while some of his teammates are lucky if they had a full season. Very few drivers can just swap teams and be immediately world class level, see Lewis and Carlos this year, both of whom have masses of experience, some of Max's teammates have been comparative rookies or never were that fast in the first place (Checo).

  • The truly pedantic way is:

    • Coffee by volume not weight. It's particularly noticeable with espresso. Obviously ridiculous to do irl because it means doing the penny test each time
    • Grind level needs adjusting throughout the day as humidity and temperature impact consistency. Also unless you freezing exactly one portion your beans off gas a little bit more each day, even in an air tight container as its not actually air tight
    • Temperature ramp should be considered and if you need to preheat everything or not to impact it. You want a slight downward temperature ramp to avoid over extraction at the end to reduce astringent and bitter flavours

Obviously over the top for vast majority and pointless if you making dark roast beans, although over extraction with them is pretty rank. However if you have some expensive light roast then it can make a noticeable difference. Is that worth it to you? Who cares, how you like your coffee is how you like it, i don't even do the above

  • UK. I get about 30 days plus bank holidays, pretty standard at my firm that people push it up to the max. Biggest perk I get is being able to work in between days off remotely, so I can be away for 3 weeks and work 5 days, so it would only cost me 10 days off. Its great for traveling.

Daughter is a teacher at a private school, she gets about 17 weeks or 85 days plus the 1 bank holiday that doesn't fall inside school holidays. Thats after teacher training days, which are days the teachers have to be at school but the kids do not. I would kill for that allocation, but not the dealing with other peoples kids every day part.

  • Train Sim World, currently 5 but TSW updates are like FIFA or Madden so its not that different from previous versions. At least it was a free update.

Just driving a train around, especially if its somewhere I know is really relaxing. Really looking forward to the first Japanese route dropping sometime this year (hopefully).

I do like that you can chose to enable safety systems or not depending on if you want to play on easy mode or very easy mode. It has even less pressure than your average relaxed building game if you ignore the clock.

Downsides, steam engines are pretty bad in the game, I just don't bother with them. Dovetail are pretty useless. Brand new routes are usually overpriced. Some of the routes are bad, really bad, or just plain boring. Very important to read reviews. Everything is DLC.

Upsides, there are frequent sales so if you stay away from the latest content it can be pretty cheap in comparison. If you get a route you like it has a fair amount of repeatability. Some of the DLC overlays nicely with other DLC.

  • You only get capped if you on one of the lite or priority tariffs.

Lite is fair, you paying less so you get less, not everybody needs a huge data allowance especially if its a backup or other infrequently used service.

Priority is where it gets squirrelly. You only really need priority if you in a high density area for starlink as you will get throttled, but you don't really need priority if you aren't unless you absolutely need to rinse the performance all the time. I typically get about 200mb down and 25mb up, but this can drop to 80mb and 10mb during peak times.

This isn't the end of the world for me as being able to access high speed internet anywhere, even on a boat is the most important thing. Sure I would like the sync 1gb I have at home while out, but its more than enough when I am away from home in the middle of nowhere.

Obviously I would rather not use starlink at all because fuck Musk and fuck the way the starlink sats are in low orbit for star gazing, but I do not have anything remotely comparable for even his inflated prices.

People always say use 4G or 5G, when I often dont even get 2G and I am reliant on wifi calling via the starlink. I have a proper external 4G antenna and its still shit when properly in the middle of nowhere.

  • The only remotely suspect part is she filed the plan to sell the shares as soon as she knew Musk was going all in on Trump, it doesn't take a genius to know that would finish Tesla. The plan is then the fastest timeline to offload her shares before Musk kills the company.

  • They and the Torys are inveterate gamblers who every couple of decades win a huge number of seats as Labour did at the last election and that hope that they can win big every time rather than playing the odds properly.

This is coupled with wanting to lock out smaller parties like the Lib Dems, but that doesn't really work for Tory adjacent parties like Reform when seat boundaries have been gerrymandered by the Tories to such a degree that a small shift in certain seats can win the election.

  • Buying less and buying for life as a priority when choosing purchases. It's had a knock on effect thst I try to buy bespoke from small artisans as they tend to be higher quality and it supports small businesses rather than megacorps.

  • Its also that he started meddling in car design, manufacturing, and roll out of his charging stations even before he went full nazi. Without exception, every recent decision hes made for those three areas has been fucking awful.

The cars have never been comparable build quality to established European (ICE) cars available for the same money, but somehow build quality has gotten worse. Then there are the just plain dumb design decisions hes forced, such as the yoke being the only steering wheel available for one model, till dealerships pushed back to at least offer a round wheel as an option. Indicators as buttons on the wheel. Gear select (yes its technically direction selection in an EV) on the big screen with no physical controls, some cars don't even have a dashboard in front of you, speed in on the tablet. 100% of everything to do with the cybertruck.100% of everything to do with his self driving system, no lidar is the dumbest hill he will die on.

Manufacturing its been a constant push to reduce costs at the expense of quality, failure to deal with systemic racism, labor law violations (particularly in Europe) and a ramping up for cybertruck production for demand that just was not ever there. They had to discount the dumb thing almost day one.

Charging stations he fired the entire team for the only thing that made Tesla unique in 2024, then hired a bunch of them back as he realized he fucked up. Instead he should have been doubling spend on chargers as this is the path to EV adoption, especially of Teslas, and other manufacturers in the US were lining up to pay him to use the charging standard, it could have been a significant revenue stream.

The icing on the cake is that they have failed to develop new models and people are sick of the old ones. Experienced manufacturers know that the majority of their line up needs refreshing every few years, Elons failed to do this.

The guy couldn't manage a Banana stand.

  • That its being co hosted will backfire on the US. If it was just the US and nobody turned up they can and will blame football for that rather than their own idiocy, but because Mexico and Canada are also hosting matches if they get great attendance then its clearly an issue with the US.

If you want to go, go to the matches in Mexico or Canada, spend your money there.

  • It used to be printers but I switched to a Brother laser printer about five years ago and its been trouble free while having reasonable print costs. You can even force it to print on empty for a bit longer, although you shouldn't push any laser printer too far on empty as you can wreck them.

Toasters are my big gripe. Its been proven that they have massively reduced costs at the expense of longevity and toasting efficiency from what we had decades ago. I have an expensive toaster (from Sage), and I have still had to replace micro switches on the buttons. While it does a better job of even browning than a cheap toaster its still far from the level I expect.

I would buy one of those expensive Japanese toasters or a commercial toaster oven but I do not want that much counter top taken up by it. I would rather just cook my toast in a cast iron pan now, far better finish.
