  • This does nothing for the current problem, which is the single largest group of people, Boomers, needing their State Pension paid, as Denmark is paid for out of general taxation, and these changes do not apply to this group, as it only applies to some of Gen X and younger. This is the same group PAYING for the boomers retirement, so they being asked to pay more than ever before and getting fucked over with the higher retirement age.

  • So this rise for Denmark does not kick in on people born before 1970, so it does not count for baby boomers or the oldest and usually wealthiest sub set of Gen X. Oh, also Danish politicians can still retire at 60 right?

This is fairly typical with these age rises, applies to everybody BUT the largest group who have caused all the problem by being the largest group and who often haven't paid their fair share in a lot of schemes as a lot of state pension schemes are a Ponzi scheme rather than an actual investment fund, including the Danes as its paid directly out of taxation.

This means all the poor fucks who will now retire later will still be paying for that largest ever group to retire at an earlier age.

What is particularly insidious with this type of change is that the private pension age has also been raised for people in the UK. This means even if you can afford to you cant take it as early as you once could. Absolutely done because they will be means testing the UK state pension at some point.

  • Always hated that they pretend you cant tax unreleased gains when they are perfectly capable of raising loans against them. If unrealized gains can be used to secure loans then they have a quantifiable value that can be taxed.

  • People will blame Nick Cleggs Lib Dems for this and yeah they play a big part in this, but the root cause is further back.

Tony Blair removed the cap on the number of students who could go to university which lead to introducing tuition fees. Before then you used to get a grant, I got three grand a year, to go to university.

Suddenly universities could massively increase the number places so they did. This lead to spiralling costs, which lead to fees going up and loans had to go up to cover this. They also borrowed heavily to expand.

David Cameron removed the cap on fees while increasing the money students could borrow with Cleggs backing (against a key Lib Dem manifesto pledge fucking the Lib Dems for years after) and Universities started getting properly greedy.

Inflation kicked in but the loans available to students didn't because the government couldn't afford to, majority of students never pay back the full amount before its written off. Student loan book is set to be a trillion pounds in about 20 years.

The whole situation is fucked because Blair said anyone could go, rather than being honest about what we could afford to pay for. Now we have a ticking timebomb that someone's going to have to pay.

  • It would cost them votes with a certain group of voters who would make this a capital offence if they could.

It doesn't really impact MPs, see the studies into drug use at the HoP or even this articles headline, so why bother risking losing important votes in swing seats? If the police started throwing MPs in jail for drug use then you'd see something done quite quickly.

Much like a lot of these wedge issues such as abortion there are a few nutters in the HoP who are rabidly opposed to it on moral grounds and a few whose husbands own legal medical cannabis farms who frankly don't want the competition.

  • Yeah Japan is awful for that and the tourists have only gotten worse with their behaviour over time. I did the main spots of Kyoto once, biggest mistake of my trip.

If you avoid the popular spots entirely then its usually pretty easy to find places that are more authentic. But its been a few years since I last went, its a very tough holiday for me as I am coeliac and the Japanese just do not take gluten allergies seriously (they had something like three people in five years diagnosed in total) so I have to self cater the entire trip.

  • Toss up between saying BVI a year after Irma, it was so quiet and empty. We spent the day on the beach at Bitter End (its absolutely amazing now its reopened) and if you know that beach its never empty except we had it to ourselves. Went to a bar in Little Bay and just spent the day hanging out with the owner, only ones there, told to help ourselves to beer from the fridge and had dinner with them. BVI is never that quiet during main season, its usually busy to packed.

Other one is Antigua during COVID, quiet beyond belief. Restaurants only allowed to do take out, so they would bring you the meals to your boat. Had a BBQ of the best steak and lobster on the main beach at Barbuda cooked just for us. Last night they opened up restaurants for dine in, only customers at this fancy Mexican fusion restaurant on the beach. They were so happy to have people back, ended up sharing the head chefs bottle of (very expensive) wine as we chatted at the end of the meal.

Most of my favorite holiday stories are when we have gone somewhere and its empty of tourists and just pretty quiet overall.

  • UK based. I did get all my beans from Outpost Coffee as they my local specialty roaster but they got too expensive for me when they went from about £40 a kg to about £55 a kg. I mostly buy from Rave Coffee, they aren't as good as Outpost but two thirds of the current price before their regular offers, and good enough. When you buy nearly 2kg a month its a lot of extra cash to spend over a year.

I do buy from local specialty shops when I travel, picked up some beans from Island Roasted when I was in the Isle of Wight last week.

I keep meaning to try some of the more interesting beans from Sigma Coffee, they seem to have a great selection but they are even more expensive the Outpost.

  • Just make that ergo hotswap and its a lot easier to play around with different switch builds.

Switch collecting/modding does pander towards hording tendencies, I have thousands of switches that are in jars so I stopped buying new ones till I cleared out some of my back log.

  • They have had several different scripts for this already including one that had Blade as a Splinter style mentor to a wacky cast of late teenagers. It's worth tracking down the summaries of the different scripts as some of them are just nuts.

They very much want to pitch this at as many quadrants as possible with a low a rating as possible and don't give a shit about the source material.

  • I normally order extra with whatever GB I picked up the board from. I only use 40% keyboards, so it tends to be rare that they are freely available in a keyboard shop, least of all the UK. Last one I remember was monorail, I purchased three of v1 (direct) and v2 (mechboards) each.

Sometimes you get third parties making new versions that are often re-imagined layouts for the same board or a continuation of an out of print board, for both see monorail for both. Some of the fun ones convert an existing layout into something else, like the wolfjaw xl for the equinox xl. They tend to be advertised by the 40% discord.

If you like a common layout like 60% they tend to be a lot easier to find, as long as its not been heavily customized. Mechboards have a bunch in stock right now

  • Germany was miles off, they lost the war before the first bomb was dropped, 7th May vs. 6th August. Its impossible for them to be both behind the Allied effort to make a nuclear bomb (so would have not been read to drop one until after 6th August) and still make one after they surrendered.

The Allies very much lied to the scientists about how far along the Germans were to guilt them into making one against objections raised at the time.

Now if those defecting Nazis who joined NASA and the like post war would have instead been used to replace objecting Allied scientists in the nuclear program, thats a real possibility.

  • Board I am using today its Moyu Blacks/Dark Jades with I think 55g progressive springs from Spirt, but I built this board a while ago so I might have put in a slightly different weight. As I like the sound a lot and they represented good value I purchased several batches of these and I have at least five or six PCBs built with them, its fairly typical for me to have more than one PCB per keyboard case.

Very tactile switches and I really enjoy the bottom out sound of these, they are very loud for tactiles and will not be for everyone.

Favorites I have built are either some zealios I put in a long stem and progressive spring or some primekbs (smokes with red stem) that are ball bearing modded. I really like that utlra clacky nature of these three switches.

  • For that we need the big names to transition to themo coils or similar. I keep telling myself that I would save enough on electric to pay for a Bengle due to it not needing so much warm up time or being left on so long between shots...
