Small, small minds see this as a threat to American liberties.

That's one tiny - TINY -aspect of what's happening right now. It's a symptom of what's going on, and not even the most eggregious one by far.

The US is self-destructing and simultaneously using that chaos to threaten other nations. It's a race between total internal collapse and world war III, and at this point most of the world is hoping the US ends up killing itself in a 50-year civil war.

Maybe you missed it, but he has declared complete lawlessness for himself and his cronies.

He's not asking, he has already declared it.

Hey, question for folks: Are the stores open today? Like right now? Or did they lock up when they announced this?

Well, it's going out of business because it's owned by an American real-estate hedge fund who has been deliberately driving it into the ground.

At the end of the day, all of that retail real estate is going to be parcelled up and leased to other companies - probably American.

There are no more Canadian department stores. Woodwards, Eaton's Simpsons-Sears, Zellers, Woolco, and now The Bay. They've all been destroyed by Walmart and Amazon. Beaver, Rona, and Peavey Mart are all destroyed or consumed by Lowe's and Home Depot.

The primary driver of retail in Canada is now American hedge and venture capitalism, which inherently harms consumers and employees. This is not going to make things better for anyone except the obscenely wealthy.

Stupid question to ask after two weeks of this shit.

China is the only place that can get a factory from idea to production in two weeks, and that's because they've got a massive factory manufacturing infrastructure (and are notorious for cutting corners).

It's going to be 3-6 months before manufacturing of basic stuff will start to be brought back in-house. In the meantime, we'll forge new supply chain relationships with other suppliers in other countries - more than one, hopefully.

If all else fails, a Scotchbrite pad should do it safely.

Frankly, if you're a naturalized citizen at all, you should already be looking over your shoulder and feeling scared right now. They're deporting legal residents because they don't like the tattoos they have. They're disappearing people for being 2SLGBTQ+.

So either you hide, you run, or you stand up. The only real difference is that standing up will make it easier to catch you - but the end result will be the same.

Shoot first, figuratively speaking.

Hey, thanks. I ended up with HyperX. Easy ordering, fast-ish delivery (from within the country, yay!) and the keycaps were mostly excellent. A few needed trimming with an exacto knife and the font is awful, but it came with a selection of space bars, and now my keyboard is looking absolutely slick.

75 million people blockading government buildings, preventing the Nazis from doing their job would definitely help.

How many people protested Vietnam? How many people were involved in the Stonewall riots? For fuck's sake, how many people were involved in the January 6 attempted coup? They may have been fascist thugs, but they got things done instead of sitting around saying "I can't do anything, it's the government's fault!"

If you're going to judge his plans based on his campaign speeches, then you deserve nothing but ridicule.

It was a full fucking YEAR before the election that he was invited to say he wouldn't be a dictator, and he declined.

“We love this guy,” Trump said of Hannity. “He says, ‘You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?’ I said: ‘No, no, no, other than day one. We’re closing the border, and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator.’"

That was from December of 2023.

Oh, and how about his faithful?

Every single person who voted for Trump in 2024 or didn't bother to vote at all has explicitly said they support a violent, expansionist, nazi regime. Nearly every person who voted against him did not enough to keep him from gaining power, and ARE STILL NOT DOING ENOUGH. Instead of taking up arms (literally or figuratively) against him, you are defending his voters.

Take some ownership of your problems.

That's EXACTLY what Putin wanted. Hell, that's what Putin's aide wrote as a blueprint for destruction of the west, a decade or so ago.

It might be a glowing one. I'm more worried about nuclear war now than I have been since the late '80s.

Especially when he spent the four interim years purging the party of anyone not 100% faithful to him, and publicly upping the aggressive rhetoric.

Everyone outside the US who was paying attention saw this coming. If we were blindsided, it was only in how much he's been able to get away with so quickly; but we knew what most of his goals were.

This headline is subtly dismissive.

"Angry" and "right now" both suggest a transient state. That's not what we're seeing.

"Canada has finally had enough of the USA" would be a more apt title; or "Canada reaches its breaking point."

Alongside of the #Never51 hashtag is an almost equally frequent #NeverGoBack. Canada, as a nation, as a people, are making the decision to go their own way, and never be so beholden to any country as we have been to the USA since 1959.

Never. Go. Back.

I'm one of those people. I joined reddit in 2006, and was a very active poster/commenter for nearly two decades.

I deleted all of my alt accounts and logged out of my main for good, well over a year ago. The communities I was involved in were still mostly human and organic, but I saw far too many people getting blocked for disagreeing with the organization. (In addition to all of the other bullshit they were pulling, of course.)

I left, and came here. Lemmy was a wasteland of so few posts that I could read/skim ALL OF THE POSTS on Lemmy, across the fediverse! It was sparse, but I resolved to be the community I sought.

And now we're...getting there. Reddit still has more real content, but it's not worth digging through the trash for, and they're not a company I want to prop up anyway.

Patience. So much patience!

• He was bankrolled FORTY YEARS AGO by the Kremlin.
• He orchestrated an attempted military coup four years ago.
• He was convicted of 34 felonies and ordered to pay a third of a billion in a civil trial.
• He has been found guilty repeatedly of sexual assault.
• He has seized illegal authority over all aspects of the government.
• He put his neo-nazi puppetmaster in charge (unsupervised) of destroying whole (non-partisan) divisions of the government
• He cut life-saving international aid.
• He threw Ukraine to the wolves, and backed Vladimir Putin's invasion.
• He destroyed almost a century of goodwill between the USA and the rest of the world.
• He continually threatens (seriously) to invade Canada, Panama, and Greenland.
• He has unilaterally renamed an international body of water.
• He is currently destroying education, research and healthcare in the USA.
• He is deporting thousands of US residents - many of them legal - in violation of the Geneva Convention.
• He is erasing attacking the right to exist for LGBTQ2+ citizens, and actively encouraging violence towards them.

In short, he has proven over and over and OVER AGAIN that he is the single biggest enemy of the USA, and the single biggest threat to their continued existence. He is copying Hitler's playbook from 1933-36 almost to the letter.

And STILL I hear, "oh just you wait - things are gonna happen if he doesn't stop soon!"

What does it take to get you to realize that the USA is being destroyed by a traitor working for Putin? What will it take for your country to FUCKING ACT RIGHT NOW instead of saying "oh, just wait" again?

Why are Trump and Musk and their entire entourage not in chains, awaiting the death penalty on the far end of high treason charges?

What the fuck are you still waiting for?

No answers from me here, but I'm curious - how much of the US learns Spanish in school?

As a Canadian looking in, I honestly believe they will. They've already done worse things and gotten away with it.
